This Sunday, we celebrate the beginning of Advent. Ad- vent is the church's "New Year," a season of prepara- tion as we get ready for the coming of Jesus at Christ- mas. Like we decorate our homes, bake our cookies, plan our trips and buy our presents, this is also a time to prepare our spiritual lives to provide a place for Jesus to live within us throughout the entire year. On Sunday, our youth will lead the congregation in a traditional Hanging of the Greens service, as we deco- rate our church building to help us get ready for Jesus' birth. Each decoration has its own meaning and pur- pose, and the youth will re- mind us of that meaning. Join us for the service, and stay for some wonderful fel- lowship in the meal to follow. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter 9 a.m.; Sunday school 10 :15 a.m. We are exploring the words in Philippians 4:4-9 and how they can help us thrive in chaos. So many trials come in- to our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back into our lives—a peace that pass- es all understanding—He is in control. Facebook: White River Chapel UMC, Jeff Pinney. The enemy of their lives is trying to bind them and hinder them from the call of God on their lives. If he can make them feel unwor- thy, that no one really cares, God really doesn't have work for them to do, and so ma- ny other things to halt them from completing God's work for their journey. Have a prayer life, fast and read the Word so the enemy can not bring you into op- pression. Stay strong and fight the good fight of faith. Be blessed this week. Pray for our great coun- try, our government and our president. Remember those in hospitals, nursing homes, your family and friends by your daily prayers. In God's Service. George Bruce Jr., Pastor OAKLAND CITY FIRST PENTECOST Hwy. 64 East Sunday morning service 9:30 a.m. with children's Sun- day school during the minis- try of the Word; Sunday and Wednesday evening services at 6 p.m.; Recovery Road has been cancelled for the season. All services are CST (Gibson Co. times). Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner will be this Sunday, Dec. 1, after the morning ser- vice. The Clines will be with us. If you are planning to at- tend, bring a covered dish. In this life, we go through three major tests: 1. The testing of youth; which is usually the different lusts of the flesh. 2. Marriage; these are usu- ally the cares of the natu- ral and the influences of our pride. 3. The weariness of age; mental, physical and emotion- al exhaustion. But, brothers and sisters, the Word warns us to not grow weary in well doing. Remem- ber you have a High Priest. You may call on Him and He will see you through these things of life, that you might graduate to a crown of Glory. Have a blessed week.
