As technology becomes more advanced, "Reverie" offers viewers a fascinating window into what might be, but it isn't exactly a new idea. A number of television series have looked at the downside of getting exactly what you want — or, at least, what you think you want. ABC's classic "Fantasy Island," as well as more contemporary series such as HBO's "Westworld," have served up cautionary tales about being granted one's ulti- mate wishes. Interestingly, "Reverie's" premise smacks of recent Spielberg film "Ready Player One" (2018), in which people use a virtual reality pro- gram to escape the real world. It's a tall order for just 10 epi- sodes, but luckily "Reverie" boasts serious players both in front of the cameras and behind the scenes. Fisher was a rela- tively unknown writer when he won a screenwriting contest with his script for ABC's "Ex- tant," which was then picked up by Amblin Entertainment, the same company that produces the new NBC series. Unlike Fisher, the stars of "Rev- erie" should be familiar to TV fans. After studying theater at Southern Methodist University, Shahi moved from Texas to Cali- fornia and landed roles in "Alias," "Dawson's Creek," "Supernatu- ral" and "The Sopranos." She had a recurring role in the acclaimed Showtime series "The L Word," and nabbed her first leading role in a prime-time television series as Det. Dani Reese in "Life" on NBC. She later moved on to the leading role in "Fairly Legal," which aired from 2011 to 2012 on USA Network. More recently, she appeared in "Chicago Fire" and "Person of Interest." Haysbert likely needs no intro- duction to fans of action series, thanks to his work on Fox's "24" and CBS's "The Unit." In the ear- ly days of his career, he guest starred in such iconic television series as "Lou Grant," "Laverne & Shirley," "Night Court," "Dal- las," "Magnum, P.I." and "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century." Movie fans may remember him as baseball player Pedro Cerrano in the 1989 sports comedy "Ma- jor League." He won a Satellite Award for his role as gardener Raymond Deagan in "Far From Heaven" (2002). Kathryn Morris, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Sarah Shahi, Jessica Lu and Dennis Haysbert as seen in "Reverie"
