Artist Theresa Troise Heidel says of the creation of this painting, "Originally,
this was part of a commission... I invented the 'night light' look because of how
striking it would be...the yellow light pouring out of the tents against a deep
blue sky. It enhanced the welcoming feel of the tents. This was important to me
because, when I was a little girl, my family had the opportunity to stay a week
in one of the tents at Ocean Grove.
"My parents were both singers who performed at the Great Auditorium. Their
friends were also musicians who let us stay in their tent. I will always remember
that great experience...even though it rained every day! There was something
magical about the way the rain sounded pattering on the canvas above me...not
to mention the aroma of fresh coffee being perked. Such atmosphere!
"To me, the shore is great anytime, and when it rains, it has a certain mystique
to it and, very uniquely, in rainy weather the salt air is much more pronounced.
My friend, who lives at the shore, and I have said many times that the salt air is
so much more distinct and noticeable at the Jersey Shore than at any other place
we've been."
