WELCOME SPRING! www.jerseyshorevacation.com • www.jerseyshorebooks.com Subscriptions and Book Orders, Toll Free: 888-22-SHORE elcome to the spring edition of JERSEY SHORE, the magazine celebrating the Jersey Coast in Ocean and Monmouth counties. Spring at the Shore is a time of renewal and rebirth, a time of pleasure and relief for senses weary of winter's limited palette. We are renewed with colors, scents, and sounds, and the mind is refreshed and given to more upbeat thoughts. Spring is often a busy time at the Shore, and JERSEY SHORE Magazine and JERSEY SHORE Publications Online are designed to bring you a wealth of information to help make life more enjoyable "down the Shore." If you're a local resident or a long- time visitor, you may find things you haven't discovered or be reminded of offerings you may have forgotten. When using these resources, you'll find a myriad of information to make your time at the Shore more rewarding and exciting. In addition to our numerous guides, this issue's feature articles once again highlight many of the on-going themes that define this magazine—the unique people, places, histo- ry, and natural world that make up our lives at the Jersey Shore. Often without trying, an issue develops a thematic pattern. In this issue, day trips, activities, and methods of travel came forth. From walking tours of towns and museums to horseback riding, biking, surf- ing, and boogie boarding—there's many ways to get around and enjoy the Jersey Shore! If you've ever wondered about Ocean Grove's tent homes, our "Jersey Shore Homes" feature, "A Peek inside The Ocean Grove Tent Houses" by Christine Menapace will satisfy your curiosity. A number of generous owners allowed us to take a look inside these unique and charming homes, many of which date back to the 1870s. Our "Jersey Shore Activities" feature, "New Jersey By Bike," also by Christine Menapace, tells of winery and farm tours by bicycle and where to find them, not only in Ocean and Monmouth counties but around the state. These tours combine fun, fitness, and seasonal fare. In our "Jersey Shore Profile" feature, author Gordon Hesse visits "The New Jersey Maritime Museum" in Beach Haven. The museum, which brings to life New Jersey's nau- tical heritage, is an essential part of the Jersey Shore experience and a worthwhile visit. This issue's "Beachcomber" section by our roving reporter, Jill Ocone, features two stories. The first, "A Solidarity Shaped by Surfing," tells of two lifelong friends and the creation of a work of art—an 11' Luthringer longboard. The second feature is on horse- back riding at the Jersey Shore and features a guide to stables in Ocean and Monmouth counties. Capping off the issue on our "Home Port" page is "Invincible Summer' by Christine Menapace, where she discovers that you're never to old to boogie board or seize the day. On our cover and throughout our pages, we are proud to present paintings and photographs by the Shore's most talented artists and photographers. This edition's cover, "Tents At Night Time," was painted by Theresa Troise Heidel, one of the Jersey Shore's and nation's finest watercolorists. The image beautifully captures Ocean Grove's tent homes at dusk. Throughout our guides, you'll find many places to go and things to do. Our Calendar of Events and Theater & Concert Events sections will guide you through the cultural happenings of the spring season in the two counties. Our guides include Area Towns, Attractions and Activities, Parks and Recreation Areas, Historic Sites and Museums, Lighthouses, Public Golf Courses, Farmers' Markets, and more. You'll also find guides to Accommodations, Stores and Shops, Art Galleries, Home & Garden, Realtors, and Dining Out & Food among others. Also inside is our Catalog of Books about the Jersey Shore. Be sure to visit our Jersey Shore Books website at www.jerseyshorebooks.com Page through JERSEY SHORE Magazine and visit us online.
