"We have 11 girls and we The numbers game is By Mike Johansen could use three or four more to fill out each of the events for each meet," said Pike Central Head Coach Jason McKinney. He is assisted by another former PC swim- mer, Mike Bohnert. "We have a couple of newcom- ers and a new swimmer this season, but we do have sev- eral girls that are returning. However, we do not have any seniors on the team." Four juniors, three soph- omores and four freshmen make up the team. Junior Aubrey Marrs could be one of the better in- dividual swimmers helping the Lady Chargers in free- style events, including the relays and the backstroke. "Aubrey will swim both of our relays, freestyle and backstroke. She is a very good swimmer and helped us out a lot last season," said Coach McKinney. "She will be one of our leaders this season and will do well in her events." Marrs placed ninth in the PAC in the 200 yard freestyle event, swim- ming a 2:34.32. She was also on the third place 400 freestyle relay team and the third place 200 freestyle re- lay team. The second junior lead- ing the team is Lauren Luff. She will be swimming the breaststroke event and the freestyle races. "She swims both those strokes well. She will be another of our leaders and is a very strong swimmer," said the coach. She was 10th in the breast- stroke at the PAC and also helped on the relays. Another freestyle swim- mer is junior Kylee Clar- idge. "She will be doing mostly freestyle this year. She is a hard worker and a good swimmer. She is also a cheerleader and splits time with cheerleading. She works hard all winter long," we will utilize her this year in the backstroke. She is a very good swimmer and a very hard worker," said Coach McKinney. Another sophomore is Kendall Dudenhoeffer in the freestyle events and the butterfly. She was fifth in the 100 freestyle last season at the PAC Meet and placed eighth in the individual med- ley. She also can work with the relay teams. "She is an- other girl that can swim any stroke that we put her at and do well in the event. She has experience in both events and will help in any event she can. "Chloe is a hard worker and is fun to have on the team. She is also a really good swimmer," said Coach McKinney. Freshman Helen Duden- enough swimmer that we feel comfortable putting her in any event," added Coach McKinney. "We expect her to do a good job in any event we have her in." Ally Sutherland is anoth- er freshman swimmer that should step in and do a good job for the PCHS varsity. She will be a freestyle sprint- er in the individual and relay events. "Ally is a freshman and a freestyle sprinter. We look for good things out of her, she is really fast in the water," said McKinney. Another freshman is ketball and decided this year she wanted to try something different," said the coach. "We are glad to have her out. She is new to the program, but with her hard work she will end up being a really good swimmer and could help us in several events." "Despite being low on Kylee Gray. She will come in and try the freestyle events for the most part, but could develop in other events. "She is a very good swim- mer and hard worker," said the coach. Junior Kendall Clerk is on the sidelines right now, but the coaches are hoping she comes in and handles the diving duties. "We will hopefully get her in the water soon and she will be one of the girl divers," said Coach McKinney. "As long as her health issues pan out and she is able to get back in the pool, we look forward to her coming out. It will be her first year trying to dive. She is a great cheerleader and gymnast and we hope that will roll over on the div- ing board." A second new swimmer hoeffer will be in the free- style events and probably the individual medley or butterfly. "She is a strong for the Lady Chargers is Ashley Davis. She is a soph- omore and played basketball last season. She is trying a new sport and fitting in. "She has always played bas- numbers, we have a few key girl swimmers that are that are good in the individual strokes. We will be all right as far as meets. We will be able to compete in most of the meets we go to. At the end of the meet, that lack of numbers will be a big factor," said the coach. "We are going to go at it and do our best and have fun when we are doing it. Whatever outcome happens, happens. The girls are hard workers. The thing is we will have to take our lumps when we get them and move on. It ought to be a really fun season and I am looking forward to it. We are young, but we have a lot of hard-working girls. They all get along with each other. Numbers are a prob- lem, but we are going into every meet and give 100 percent and having fun do- ing it. Hopefully the team keeps growing and improv- ing," added the coach.
