Wednesday, November 21, 2012 B-1 E-Mail Sports Items to: sports@pressdispatch.net Sports Tidbits From the Mini Mac By Mike Johansen have been noticing that my stepmom, sister and many others have been observ- ing the Days of Thankfulness on Facebook. I am going to do that, but as usual, it is going to be in this column rather than Face- book, since I do not get on it more than a couple times a week. First and foremost, I want to thank my God and Lord in Heav- en and my Savior Jesus Christ. Without my faith and the guid- ance from heaven above, I know I would not have gotten to where I am in life. It is the Divine Spirit that is sent from heaven for all of us—you, me, everyone—that is so important, the most important thing in life. I don't know how long He will be having me serve here on earth, but I will try to give it my best each and every day If you haven't found our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and come to know our Father in Heaven, I urge you to do it and do it now. There are many churches and many good people who will be glad to help you find your Lord and Savior; all you need to do is to accept Him into your heart and start your life anew. Please, do it now! I really thank you Lord for so many years with my dad (Nor- man, but I always called him Dad) and all that he did for me and the love he showed to all us kids. He was on this earth 88 years and did so many good things. He was a great man and my hero and I know he is now in your service and I praise you for taking him Home. I I also miss my original mom, Genevra Jeff Johansen, as she was around so short a time. She passed away in 1984. She was a very fine lady who tried many things in life and gave her all to us kids when trying to raise us. My stepmom Fran is so very special and a wonderful person. She is so kind and considerate and caring about all of us in her family. She is just one of those special people God allowed in all our lives. She is just one very special person to all of our family and her many friends. She has traveled to some exotic places this past year spreading the Word of God and Love and helping kids and adults learn. She is very special and adventurous as she moves forward after the loss of dad-Norm. My brother Rich and Sis-in- Law Chris, nieces Brittany and her husband Jason, and my grandniece Maddie, and my niece Allison are just all very special people. They have really helped me this past year as well as being great people of God. I really enjoy the times we do have together and hearing about them and all they do. I thank Rich and Chris for putting up with me and taking care of me from time to time. God Bless!!! I thank the Lord for being with me as I traveled the rough road to continue the fight to keep my kidney problems in check and do the best I can. The Lord was either right beside me or carried me through the tough times. I never asked why, but just asked for His help and guidance to lead me back to health if that was His will for me. Lord, I have challeng- es ahead and I ask your help and guidance to move forward in the best way possible and to be by my side or carry me when I needed it. Thank you Lord for being there and guiding me!!!! First win comes for PC Girls Topple Trojans in third game of the new season week during the past eight days, and they were able to pick up their first win of the season two weeks earlier than last year. The challenge now will be to The Lady Chargers had a busy By Mike Johansen find the second and third wins of the year, a lot sooner than last sea- son. Last year the Lady Chargers had a win over South Spencer ear- ly in December, a win over Linton- Stockton in the Christmas tourna- ment and a win over Tecumseh at the end of January. After tasting victory over Wood Memorial on Friday, the Lady Chargers know they like the taste of that result a lot better than the alternative. The losses to Vincennes Lincoln on Nov. 13 and Tell City last Saturday did not give them that good feeling a win does. The week opened at Vincennes Lincoln for the second game of the season and a third quarter scoring drought resulted in a 46-35 loss to the Lady Alices. Jordan Like scored the first points of the game with 6:39 to go in the first eight minute quarter. The Lady Alices scored the next seven until a free throw by Emily Howes and two more free throws by freshman Samantha Halbrader. A three pointer by Howes with 2:56 to play had the Lady Chargers on top for the first time, 8-7. A basket by Like and one from Alyx Abbott Michal Ashby battles with three Lady Trojans for a rebound during Pike Central's first win Friday night. Olivia Leighty comes in to try to help. off a steal resulted in a 12-7 lead for the Lady Chargers. They went cold the last minute and a half, and Vincennes Lincoln took advantage to slip back in front 13-12 on a last- second shot. A three pointer by Abbott early in the second period tied the score at 15-15 and a free throw from Hal- brader made it 16-16. The Lady Al- ices went on a four-point run for a 20-16 margin and after a Halbrader two, stretched the lead to 25-18. Like and Halbrader made shots to end the half and cut the difference to 22-25 at the halftime break. The key to the game proved to be the start of the third quarter. The Lady Chargers did not score for the first 5:08 and the Lady Al- ices went ahead 30-22. Like had a basket and Michal Ashby one, but Pike Central was out-scored 10-4 in the period and trailed 26-35 at the end. Ashby nailed a three to start close," said Head Coach Randy Graham. "A couple of bright spots in this game were the contribu- tions of Halbrader off the bench and Abbott playing more relaxed. As the season rolls along we ex- pect our depth to get better." Like had 10 points and Hal- brader 9. Like had eight rebounds, Howes seven and Halbrader five. Abbott had four assists and two each for Ashby and Like. Howes had two blocks. Ashby had four steals and Abbott two. Pike Central (35) vs. Vincennes the fourth period, but the Lady Alices cut off the rally with a 7-2 run to lead 42-31. It was a 4-4 even match in the last four minutes of the game as Vincennes Lincoln worked the ball to win 46-35.
