Junior Varsity basketball player, Ella Dotson, the Spartans point guard/shooting guard, who has been playing basketball for a number of years, says what she likes most about basketball is, "Playing as a team, when the team comes together so does the game." The Red Bluff basketball team has a great team bond, and to win games a strong bond is necessary "The team is pretty close, but also really fun," says Jayne Brandt, the said, " It is a different sport to do and something new." There are at least six or seven games left in the season. I also interviewed freshman defense player Carlos Ramos. He says his favorite part about soccer is their coach, Leo. He is twenty-five years old and has great energy. He said he feels as though the coach is one of them and that is why he is such a great fit for their team. When asked why he participates in the sport Ramos said," it's fun to play." Caleb said he loves the game and has also confirmed that Shasta is their biggest competitor. The boys have had an incredible season. Their season will end in February until then they are going to keep their winning streak. They have been playing great all season and will continue to play great in their upcoming games. Our JV boys soccer team has been doing outstanding lately. They have been having an amazing season with a 6-0 record. There are twenty-one people on the team. The boys have been working really hard and it is showing off. In their last game the score was 3 to 2. The practices are every day after school from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. When interviewing sophomore Edward Hunt he said that his favorite part of the season is the practices. He said he likes learning all the new techniques during the practices. He plays right defense and says their biggest competitor is Shasta. But with their record so far, Shasta should be worried. It is a combat heavy sport that involves holds, grappling, and take downs. The wrestling teams coaches are coach Minto, Bobadilla, and Davis and have over thirty people on the wrestling team to train. The Varsity Girls Soccer Team is looking to improve this season, as they currently have a record of 1-1. Taylor Deveraux, freshman at Red Bluff High, has been playing soccer for about 8 years and hopes to play throughout the rest of high school. When asked what her personal goal for this season is, Deveraux replied, "My personal goal for this season is to become better at defense by practicing more drills and getting advice from players of higher experience." Deveraux said that her favorite part is stopping others from scoring which is her main job as a defender. "Our goal as a team is to win as many games as we can and be league champions," said Deveraux. The Red Bluff High School 2018 JV girls soccer team played at Chico high on Wednesday, January 17. Their strategy for the game was to work together as a team. Sage Lozano, a sophomore on the team thought that they would win the game. Lozano plays middle and forward and has been playing soccer for two years. So far, the team has played 2 games and has won one and lost one. Lozano said that "to win our games, we will need to work together as a team." This year, the team's biggest threat will be PV because they have lots of played who are really good at soccer. To beat their teams, they must practice hard and play well in their games. Jake Benner Staff Writer team's starting forward, who has been playing basketball for Red Bluff High for her first year now. While playing Junior Varsity basketball, mistakes must be limited in order to be the best they can. When asked what the team could improve on, Ella replied with, "We could improve on communication, just talking on the court", Jayne commented, "I think our team could work on boxing out on the court." When asked how close the coaching staff on the team is, Ella Dotson responded, "The coach is good, she knows what she is doing, tells us exactly what to do, and she completely supports us", and Jayne Brandt said "The coach knows what is best for the team, is very fun, but intense at the same time" With the Junior Varsity basketball league season just starting, with only two games played the team is working their hardest to achieve the best record possible this season. The team is more determined than ever to bring pride to the Spartan basketball program. JV Girls Basketball JV Boys Soccer the fun of it. It's you and one other person one on one giving it everything you have. The Red Bluff High School JV wrestling team is doing well. When asked why he does wrestling Mason Ashworth said "Wrestling is a very hard sport. The wrestling team has been to a dozen tournaments so far, improving at each and every one of them. With very experienced and knowledgeable Ty Minto being the head coach of the wrestling team, the wrestling team is looking forward to a bright season. Deveraux explained that getting faster and stronger can help her perform better because she can be more successful and beat out her opponents in vital situations.
