A program advisory panel of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Tuesday recommended approving the applica- tions of 23 jurisdictions to join the 287(g) pro- gram under the jail model, including Waukesha County's. Waukesha County Sheriff Eric Severson said in a statement a final deci- sion is expected within four weeks. Under the jail model, corrections staff would be trained for interrogating alleged undocumented per- sons who have been arrested on state or local charges and may place immigration detainers on inmates thought to be subject to removal, according to the American Immigration Council.
