The Awards ceremony is the culmination of the festival, and it is wonderful to see the artists rewarded for their creativity and dedication to their artistic vision. Artists awards are presented in the following categories: Best of Category – ceramics, drawing, fiber/leather, glass, graphics/printmaking, jewelry, mixed media 2d, mixed media 3d, painting, photography, sculpture and wood, and Best of Show. The Festival artists are judged by local artists who view all of the artwork on site at the festival. In order to maintain a fresh perspective the judges change from year to year. Winning artists are extended an invitation to participate in next year's show. The Festival of Arts is able to maintain a high caliber of art in our show because it is juried, meaning that as part of the selection process artists must submit examples of their work, which is reviewed anonymously by an independent jury. Again, the jury changes from year to year. We are fortunate to have an abundance of talented and generous artists in Oconomowoc and Lake Country to serve as jurors and judges for the festival. Another important part of the Awards ceremony is the presentation of scholarships. Each year high school students attending Oconomowoc schools or residing in the district are given the opportunity to compete for several scholarships. Over the past 47 years, the Festival of the Arts has awarded over $200,000 in scholarships to students intending to pursue careers in the arts. This years talented scholarship recipients are featured on page 13.
