in sprints, and is proud that he
was considered the fastest in
the county. "I achieved scholar
athlete while playing sports my
final two years," says pardue.
"Along with that, I won two
separate events for league: the
100m and 200m."
Marcus scholarships have
been awarded annually
since 1989, with Chandler
scholarships starting in 2006.
McConnell has been a part
of WTW since its inception in
1973 (he ran in the first few
races), and a board member
since the board became official
(around 1980). He was race
director in the late 70's and
early 80's, and now helps
administer WTW. He and
the other board members
truly enjoy awarding the
scholarships each year. "All
four of this year's recipients
were successful in high school
and have the potential to be
equally successful in college,"
says McConnell. "We are
confident they will take full
advantage of the opportunities
that will come their way, and
hope that our scholarships will
make attaining that success
just a little bit easier."
