This ranking is the first The Soil and Water Conser- step used to determine the amount of cost share funding that will be disbursed in Pike County through the Environ- mental Quality Incentive Pro- gram (EQIP) and the Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP). This meeting will be at the USDA Service Cen- ter located in Petersburg, on Wednesday, August 1 at 5:30 p.m. EDT. EQIP is designed to help agricultural producers put conservation treatments on land they use for food and fiber production. The local group will convene and iden- tify the top 10 resource prior- ities in the county for EQIP. If watersheds are select- tified, the group must then rank them in order of impor- tance. The most important local resource priority will receive the highest ranking points and should be des- ignated as number one, fol- lowed by the second most im- portant as number two, etc. The Wildlife Habitat Incen- tives program resource con- cerns will be ranked as well. Since no one knows the lo- cal resources and needs bet- ter than the people who live in each county, the SWCD Board is asking you, the lo- cal conservation stakehold- ers, county officials and those running for office to provide input to help guide the con- servation priorities. Ranking sheets will be provided at the meeting and the group will compare and compile their lists to determine the final lo- cal ranking for Pike County EQIP and WHIP applications. If you are unable to attend ed as a resource priority, they will count against the 10 available. For example, if two watersheds are chosen, eight resource concerns may be chosen. Once the top 10 resource priorities are iden- the meeting, but would like to share your thoughts on the ranking, contact the office and a sheet will be mailed to you and taken into consider- ation. An RSVP is preferred for this event by calling the office at 354-6120 ex.3.
