I try not to dwell on any of them because I know there are people in worse shape. I try to keep a positive outlook and keep fighting ahead in God's and Jesus Christ's names. My faith does a lot to help me. W e all have troubles and face difficult times. I have been having I have found a couple of inter- esting stories I want to pass along. This first one is for people of all ages. But, it makes you think and I hope maybe help someone. Here is a story titled "Just a Little Smile" by: John W. Schlatter, Source Unknown. It is from After Hours Inspirational Stories on the Internet. VIDEO NETedition Exclusive "Mark was walking home from school one day when he noticed the boy ahead of him had tripped and dropped all of the books he was carrying, along with two sweaters, a baseball bat, a glove and a small tape recorder. Mark knelt down and helped the boy pick up the scattered articles. Since they were going the same way, he helped to carry part of the burden. As they walked, Mark discovered the boy's name was Bill, that he loved video games, baseball and history, and that he was having lots of trouble with his other subjects and that he had just broken up with his girlfriend." "They arrived at Bill's home first and Mark was invited in for a Coke and to watch some television. The afternoon passed pleasantly with a few laughs and some shared small talk, then Mark went home. They continued to see each other around school, had lunch together once or twice, then both graduated from junior high school. They ended up in the same high school where they had brief contacts over the years. Finally, the long awaited senior year came and three weeks before graduation, Bill asked Mark if they could talk." "Bill reminded him of the day years ago when they had first met. "Did you ever wonder why I was carrying so many things home that day?" asked Bill. "You see, I cleaned out my locker because I didn't want to leave a mess for anyone else. I had stored away some of my mother's sleep- ing pills and I was going home to commit suicide. But after we spent some time together talking and laughing, I realized that if I had killed myself, I would have missed that time and so many oth- ers that might follow. So you see, Mark, when you picked up those books that day, you did a lot more. You saved my life." The End! ******* Here is an item from Rick Ham- lin, Executive Editor, of Guide- posts, another inspirational story site on the Internet. It is called: "The Olympic Spirit: Our Most Inspiring Athletes". "I got pretty close once to the Olympics, but my father got even closer. I'll explain." partner won the North American Championship in their yachting class but finished a disappointing second in the Olympic trials—not good enough to get them to Rome that year. But Dad never seemed disheartened, let alone defeated." "Hope is what kept him compet- ing. In fact, on a shelf at home sat an old tarnished trophy. He "won" it as a boy after his first summer of competitive sailing in southern California. Race after race he came in dead last." "In 1960, Dad and his sailing "Sometimes he was so slow that the committee boat had already gone home when he crossed the finish line. But he finished every race and when all the other trophies were presented that year he got this one, "The Hope Cup." Dad was a winner after all." "He never did make it to the Olympics, but in 1984, when the Summer Games were in Los Angeles, he was in charge of the yachting venue." "That same year I had just been hired at Guideposts in New York. Going home for the Games was out of the question. In fact, Carol and I, newlyweds in a tiny Manhattan apartment, had to rent a TV to watch the events." "Dad had another suggestion. 'Maybe you could carry the flame on its way to L.A.,' he said. So he made some phone calls and that's just what I did." Continued on Page 2 Monday.
