Left: Gray Squirrel, Toms River.
While photographing birds along an estuary of Barnegat Bay during a snowstorm,
this gray squirrel wandered into the frame. The squirrel just sat there and placed
its tail like an umbrella to shield it from the snow. On several other occasions,
I observed the same behavior, a perfect pose for the camera.
Above: Downy Woodpecker, Toms River.
The downy woodpecker is so much fun to photograph. They are very quick, little
birds. I find they are quite friendly and relatively easy to approach. Their tapping
on trees (and sometimes house gutters) makes them easy to find.
