Wintertime
—
Along Barnegat Bay

A
s the days grow shorter and the chill
of late autumn is evident in the white-
capped waves on Barnegat Bay, the many
creatures that call the bay home prepare for
the coming cold.
For wildlife photographer Ray Yeager,
wintertime along the bay has its own subtle
beauty. After the frenzy of summer, after the
tourists have left and the migrating birds
have flown off to warmer climes, a certain
quiet descends upon the bay and life along its
frozen edged shores.
Yeager's photos of Barnegat Bay and the
creatures that winter there, such as the red
fox, the eastern bluebird, and sometimes even
the snowy owl, offer a glimpse of motion and
color against the gray backdrop of a snowy
January day.
As seen on these pages, his photographs
(and captions in his own words) document
the diversity of life on the bay that is happen-
ing all around us while most are snug in their
warm winter homes.
