TV Media Weekly | October 8 - 14, 2016 Sunday morning | 7 By Andrew Warren TV Media Divorce undone: Sarah Jessi- ca Parker is getting back together with HBO. The star of "Sex and the City" — both the TV show and the two major motion pictures — called the network home from 1998 to 2004, winning two Em- mys (for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and for Out- standing Comedy Series) and earning herself four Golden Globes. On Sunday, Oct. 9, she's bring- ing that special kind of star power back to HBO with the new dark comedy "Divorce." It's her first time back in a regular role on tele- vision since "Sex and the City" wrapped up in 2004. Divorce is not typically the type of life event that can be laughed at, but this show could be the ex- ception to the rule. After a decade of struggling to make a difficult marriage work, Parker's character, Frances, realizes that her life needs a new direction, so she leaves her husband and starts to reassess everything around her. Thomas Haden Church ("Wings") stars as Frances's soon- to-be ex-husband, Robert, a guy's guy who isn't going to take this divorce lying down: he's bringing in the lawyers, much to Frances's chagrin. Molly Shannon ("How the Grinch Stole Christmas," 2000), Talia Balsam ("Mad Men") and Tracy Letts ("The Big Short," 2015) round out the cast, along with Charlie Kilgore ("Moonrise Kingdom," 2012) and Sterling Jerins ("World War Z," 2013). A divorce is never a laughing matter, but then that's what black comedies are all about: finding the humor in the least expected places. Sarah Jessica Parker makes her triumphant return to both television and HBO when "Di- vorce" premieres Sunday, Oct. 9. An average American: It isn't easy being a mom. It's even hard- er to be a mom who's surrounded by perfect people. Katie is a housewife and mom raising her far-from-perfect family in a wealthy Connecticut suburb, and her life is exactly the way she likes it. All of that begins to change, though, when she starts to move up the neighborhood's social lad- der. Katy Mixon ("Hell or High Wa- ter," 2016) stars in "American Housewife," premiering Tuesday, Oct. 11, on ABC.
