RutherfordWeekly.com • 828-248-1408 RutherfordWeekly.com • 828-248-1408 Leadership Rutherford seeks applicants Article Provided By: Linc McDaniel, Leadership Rutherford Leadership Rutherford is recruiting ap- plicants for its next class series, which will begin with an orientation in August and the fi rst session in September. Whether you're a county native or have just moved to the area, this program is a valuable commu- nity-building and leadership development experience. Each year, the program accepts up to 20 participants. Founded in 1999, Leader- ship Rutherford has 309 graduates to date. The class meets once per month, Septem- ber through May. Each day-long meeting has a theme and participants hear from local subject matter experts. Themes in- clude economic development, lifestyle, ed- ucation, healthcare, government, diversity, agriculture, environment, and tourism. Recent Leadership Rutherford gradu- ate and student at East Rutherford High School, Grey Griffi th shared, "It's not about how it looks on a college application, it's the network of people and experiences behind it." Another graduate commented "I loved Leadership Rutherford because it gave me many opportunities and allowed me to learn a lot of new information about our county." As a team, each class undertakes a group project, which class members de- velop and execute together for the benefi t of Rutherford County. Past class projects include the Cherry Bounce Trail; the Lead- er of the Pack 5K; the Caroleen Public Park Revitalization; the Rail Trail Clean- Up, Bench Sponsorship and Backpack Food Drive; and @ResourceRutherford on Facebook. Class projects are designed to facilitate team-building and to have a last- ing impact on the community. The cost of the program is $550, which covers all supplies, meals, travel, and pro- fessional fees for the year. This equates to about $7.43 per hour for a year of high- quality, high-impact professional devel- opment and leadership training. In many cases, workplaces will pay some or all of the program cost to sponsor an employee in the class. There are limited scholarship funds available. To apply, visit Leadership Rutherford's website, www.leadershiprutherford.com, and download the application, instructions for how to apply, and a scholarship request form. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016. Leadership Rutherford is a valuable asset to the community. To be a part of its impact, consider sponsoring the pro- gram. Sponsorship opportunities include $250 for a Class Lunch, $550 to provide a Student Scholarship, $750 to be a Gold Sponsor,or $1,000 to be a Platinum Sponsor. Your sponsorship will allow us to offer a quality class experience for our par- ticipants, including meals, materials and transportation to key sites throughout the class year. Graduates become a source of positive change for our community by becoming involved in business, civic and community leadership positions. You will be exposed to students, other sponsors and speakers who participate in the class during the year. Any questions about the program, the application process, or becoming a spon- sor may be directed to the class facilitator, Linc McDaniel at leadershiprutherford- NC@gmail.com. And save the date for the upcoming 2016 Candidate Town Hall Series, co- sponsored by Leadership Rutherford and the Rutherford County Chamber of Com- merce. Beginning Sept, 13, 2016, town hall sessions will take place every Tuesday evening for fi ve weeks in various locations throughout the County, including Golden Valley, Ellenboro, Rutherfordton, Forest City, and Lake Lure. Local and state-level elected offi cials are invited to participate. Each session will be moderated by Jim Bishop in a town hall format, with ques- tions accepted from the audience.
