The application for this year's grant program is now available. This year, Facebook will award up to $90,000 in grants to support projects that put the power of technology to use for community benefi t, help improve education at all levels, encourage the community to participate in local activities, and bring new and diverse opportunities to the area. The community action grants program is available to nonprofi ts and certain public organizations in Rutherford, Cleveland, McDowell, and Polk Counties. Since 2011, the Forest City Data Center has awarded more than $650,000 in grants to local communities and nonprofi ts. Facebook Community Action Grants Grant applications will be reviewed by a committee of Facebook employees led by Data Center Manager Keven McCammon and awarded based on their merit and adherence to the guidelines. Grant Guidelines • Facebook grants are available projects in Rutherford, Cleveland, McDowell and Polk Counties that address critical community needs by putting the power of technology to use for community benefi t, connecting people online or off, improving education and promoting local economic development. • The maximum grant amount per recipient is $10,000. • Groups may apply for one grant per 501(c)(3) registration. • Grant applications will be accepted until 11:59pm EST Friday, September 16, 2016. Grants will be awarded in November 2016. • Facebook community grants are intended for nonprofi t and certain public organizations. We cannot fund for-profi t companies through this program. • Eligible organizations must have a Facebook page. This requirement does not extend to personal pages. To create a Facebook page for your organization prior to submitting your grant applications, please visit facebook.com/pages/create.php. • The funds allocated should be used during a specifi c time period and have demonstrable metrics that can be publicly reported. We will ask for a semi-annual report of how the funds are being used and their impact. The following types of organizations are not eligible for Facebook community grants: • Organizations whose mission or activities include proselytizing on behalf of any religion. • Organizations that make hiring choices based on race, gender, faith, national origin, sexual orientation or disability. • Organizations that promote or support specifi c political ideologies, doctrines, candidates or issues.
