The nine hole course has five sets of tees that play from 2,368 to 2822 for nine holes or 4883 and 5,854 for 18 holes, with slopes of 114 for the men and 112 for the women. The two par fives are short enough for the longest hitters to reach in two, but remain a challenge. Hole two is a downhill 508 yard hole from the tips, with a large creek in front of the green, preventing any run up shots. The par five ninth hole is an uphill 495 yard hole with an elevated green. The par three fifth hole is the course's signature hole, playing 195 from the tips and 145 from the forward men's tees. Water surrounding the hole on three sides with a 30 foot falloff to the right, a bunker on the front left, and a grass bunker on the front right, make the hole a brute from tips. The forward tees still require a solid short iron. The women's tees play from 115 to 130. Prides Creek recently installed bermuda grass fairways that provide a great lie if you are in the fairway all summer long. SULTAN'S RUN GOLF CLUB 1490 N Meridian Road, Jaspe 812-482-1009 www.sultansrun.com Sultan's Run Golf Club is nestled in the heart of beautiful Southern Indiana and stretches over 224 rolling acres of woods, water and wildlife. Sultan's Run Golf Club's zoysia tee, fairways and green surrounds of- fer a world-class playing surface. The roughs are a Bermuda and fescue blend, while the green surfaces are of bentgrass. The Clubhouse at Sultan's Run offers a great view of the Signature, 18th Hole, Su- preme Sultan. Whether you are at the turn, finishing your round or just visiting to take in the sights, you'll find The Clubhouse at Sultan's Run a great place to relax. It was only a few years ago that this lush land was home to Supreme Sultan, a horse of history, and literally a legend in his own time. It was over these hills and valleys of picturesque beauty that Supreme Sultan sired a record number of World Champion American Saddlebred horses. No place on earth can lay claim to this record. Now, this same ground recalls the heritage of Supreme Sultan, just as an engraved stone marks each unique and challenging tee box, memorializing the name of one of these World Champions. From its very beginning, this land was destined for greatness, but few would have predicted the creation of a world class golf course that would entice champions. Sultan's Run embarked on an extensive remodeling project in 1996, taking the golf course to the pinnacle of public golf. Design- er Tim Liddy, a disciple of world renowned architect Pete Dye, took what God had laid out and what the course already offered, and enhanced it. What he came up with is one of the top tests of golf in the Midwest and southern Indiana. From the tips, Sultan's Run stretches to 6,859 yards, with a slope of 136 and a rating of 73.4. There are four sets of tees, with yardages of 6,429 yards for a slope of 134 and rating of 71.4; 5,842 yards with a slope of 129 and a rating of 68.6 and 4,911 yards and a slope of 122 and rating of 68.2. The wide range of tees allow players to adjust the course length to their abilities and courage level. Players, regardless of the tees, will face pulse-quickening shots, whether it is a 150 - yard or more carry over water to the par 3 second hole green, or the decision of how much of a gamble to take trying to carry the large chasm separating the tee box and perpendicular fairway on hole nine, or how much to cut the corner off the tee at hole 18. All are examples of risk-reward challenges Liddy builds into his designs. Sultan's Run also offers dramatic elevation changes, start- ing with hole one, where your drive is down- hill to a sloping fairway and then back up the hill over a bunker to an elevated green. The biggest drop is on the par 3 12th, where golf- ers will face more than a 100 foot drop to the green 195 yards away. Hole 14 offers another big drop after hitting your tee to the end of the fairway. You are left with a short iron shot to a green nearly 100 feet below. A round at Sultan's Run will bring out every club in your bag and present numer- ous challenges from uphill approach shots, downhill approach shots and the need for shaped shots. Regardless how much risk you decide to take, your round will be as far away from a mundane municipal course as you can get in Indiana. Come to Sultan's Run Golf Club in Jasper, Ind., and experience extraordinary beauty, friendly people and great golf. Call 812-482- 1009 or book online. Download their app on iTunes or Google Play. WASHINGTON COUNTRY CLUB 908 Bedford Road, Washington 812-254-2060 The Washington Country Club has been providing a strong test of golf in a park set- ting since the 1920s. The nine-hole course plays from 2,800 to 2,400 yards, depending on tee selection, with a slope rating of 116 for the men and 117 for the women from 2,400 yards. The course starts with its most difficult hole as number one, a 405 -yard par four for men and a 385 -yard par five for women. It starts with a blind tee shot over a hill into a dog leg. Then there is a minimum carry of 150 yards over water to the green. "Not very many people get par on the first hole," said Club pro Skip Pace. The second hole can be hard as well, depending on where the tees are set. Golfers can play from as far back as 230 yards. Pace said they are typically at about 180 yards. Washington Country Club plays over roll- ing hills in a beautiful setting resembling a park, located at 908 Bedford Road in Wash- ington, just blocks from the high school. It was voted the number one golf course in the area in 2014. It also features Mulligan's Restaurant with their inviting atmosphere, unlike any other restaurant in the area. You can enjoy a win- tertime table near the warmth of the large fireplace in the Main Dining Room; the cozy confines of the 19th Hole; or the covered pa- tio overlooking the course in warm weather. Mulligan's offers lunch and dinner, and is available for special events. Call 812-354-2060 to schedule a tee time or a special event at Mulligan's.
