40 PIKE PUBLISHING BACKYARD ADVENTURES 2016 G U I D E BACKYARD ADVENTURES GOLF FEATURED CAMBRIDGE GOLF COURSE 1034 Beacon Hill Dr., Evansville 812-868-4653 cambridgegc.com Welcome to Cambridge Golf Course, your number one choice for a round of golf in the Evansville area. We have everything we need on our grounds for you to craft a truly unforgettable round of golf. Cambridge features a Tim Liddy designed championship 18 -hole golf course artfully etched into 170 acres of gently rolling Indi- ana farm land. Cambridge Golf Course is high quality of the course design, one of the few true links golf courses in Indiana. Multiple tees, target landing areas, in-play lakes, formidable grass mounds, demand- ing bunkers, and finely sculpted bent grass greens highlight this challenging 7,200 yards Scottish- style links course. Designer Tim Liddy crafted risk/reward design philosophy throughout the venue. The Cambridge layout places a premium on accurate tee shots, leaving the player better angles into the smallish greens, Cambridge's par 4's and 5's present numer- ous playing options and shots values, and a perfect balance of risk and reward, while the par 3's require precise shot making. The course, with its manicured open spaces and large expanses of green, adds beauty and form to the Cambridge Village Community. The recently expanded Cambridge Banquet room now holds up to 350 or more people. The room features spectacular views of the 18th Hole at Cambridge Golf Course. This elegant room is perfect for that special day. For those who may be interested in having the ceremony at Cambridge Golf Course, they offer two locations. First, the fountain area in front of the clubhouse is a spectacular setting for an outdoor event. For those looking for an elegant room for the special day, they can use the Cambridge Banquet room for the service. Their staff will set the banquet room in Cathedral-style seating. Following the event, they will then quickly transform the room for the night's celebrations. Cambridge is the perfect setting for wed- dings and receptions but is not limited to wedding celebrations. Anniversary parties, rehearsal dinners, bridal and baby show- ers, class reunions, and many other events all are welcome at their facilities. Different menus, hors d'eourves, snacks and appetiz- ers are available to meet the needs of your event. Cambridge Golf Course Banquet Facilities provide the perfect location for your event. CHRISTMAS LAKE GOLF COURSE 1 Clubhouse Drive, Santa Claus 1-877-962-7465 • 812-544-2255 www.christmaslake.com Christmas Lake Golf Course was one of the first championship golf courses in south- ern Indiana, the idea of visionary Bill Koch. It was designed and built by national known architect Edmund Ault. Nearly 50 years later, Christmas Lake Golf Course is still taking golfers to their limits. One of their yearly events includes the Nightmare before Christmas tournament, which fea- tures the hardest pin and tee placements in early December. Rated by Golf Digest as one of the top 75 public golf courses in the country, Christ- mas Lake perennially provides a champion- ship challenge with great conditions and service. There are five sets of tees ranging from the tips at a gaudy 7,275 yards. It trickles down from there to the blue tees at 6,745, white at 6,243, green at 4,758 and red at 5,074. The slopes run from 136 for the gold, 130 for blue, 126 for white and 121 for both the green and women's red tees. The course starts off with a down hill 480 yard par four that is the number five handicap. The second hole is the course's toughest hole, a dog leg left 465 from the tips and 428 from the blue. Both require a long and accurate tee shot to avoid rough on the left and water on the right. The fair way and green have water all down the right side. The front nine is fairly flat, but the back nine plays up and down through the hills of Spencer County. The final hole is a par 3 with a water carry to the green from distanc- es of 206 from the tips in 25 yard increments for the short tees. They have a full range of equipment, ac- cessories and clothing in the pro-shop, as well as a grill in the clubhouse, capable of holding large events. OAKLAND CITY COUNTRY CLUB 1593 South West St., Oakland City 812-749-3923 Oakland City Country Club is open to the public for daily play. The par 35 nine hole course was built in 1947 and plays a variety length of holes. It slaps you in the face on the first tee with a long and narrow tee shot for the par five 500 yard hole. Then, it switches gears to a short par three on hole two that plays from 112 to 147 down hill, but often is a stress- ful par. The 395 yard par four, fourth hole requires driver off the tee. Oakland City's small firm and sloped greens require careful consideration for a low score. The sixth hole is a 145 to 169 all carry par three over water to a tiered green with multiple tees providing various angles and distances. When it plays into the wind, it can be a round breaker. For men, the course plays 5545 for par 35 for a 105 slope. While the women play 5,249 par 74. The women start the course with a rare par six 500 yard hole. The clubhouse has a bar and grill for all your snack and meal needs before, during or after your round. PRIDES CREEK GOLF COURSE 1005 E. County Road 400 N., Petersburg 812-354-3059 www.pridescreekgolf.com Prides Creek Golf Course is a picturesque setting in Prides Creek Park, played around the 90 -acre Prides Creek Lake. It was built in 1992 and puts a bonus on precision. Most holes are tree lined, amid the rolling hills along the sides of Prides Creek Lake. Five of the holes have water and two of the CRAWFORD COUNTY Lucas Oil Golf Course 139 N. Boss Lane, English • 812-338 -3748 DUBOIS COUNTY Alvin C. Ruxer Municipal Golf Course 400 S.
