TV Media Weekly | March 12 - 18, 2016 8 | Sunday afternoon BBC America's enormously popu- lar "Top Gear" has been going through a pretty big shakeup fol- lowing the departure of its stars last year, but that hasn't slowed down the high-speed car show. English TV and radio presenter Chris Evans ("The One Show") and American TV star Matt LeB- lanc ("Friends") have both signed on for the series, replacing former hosts Jeremy Clarkson ("Clark- son"), James May ("Toy Stories") and Richard Hammond ("Blast Lab"), all three of whom have signed on for a new series with Amazon Prime. Evans may be relatively un- known stateside, but in the United Kingdom he's a hugely popular TV and radio personality that may help pull in longtime "Top Gear" fans who were disgruntled by the widely publicized falling out be- tween BBC executives and former "Top Gear" fixture Clarkson. LeB- lanc, on the other hand, hardly needs an introduction, with star- ring roles in "Friends," "Joey" and "Episodes" all on his résumé. Evans and LeBlanc are joined behind the wheel by some top au- tomotive experts. Sabine Schmitz is a German professional racing driver, Eddie Jordan is a former Formula One team owner, and car reviewer Rory Reid has been fea- tured in "Gadget Geeks" and on technology website CNET. Whether the popularity of "Top Gear" has been the result of the fast and quirky cars or former host Clarkson's equally quirky person- ality is anyone's guest at this point, but with an open road ahead of them, Evans and LeBlanc are putting the pedal to the metal. The new season of "Top Gear" is expected to premiere in May. Good Karma: MTV's rom-com isn't faking its popularity. In fact, it has enough to land itself a third season. "Faking It" returns Tues- day, March 15, and after the heart-wrenching events at the end of season 2, it may not be the happiest of homecomings.The sit- com stars Rita Volk ("Rizzoli & Isles") and former "American Idol" contestant Katie Stevens as Amy and Karma, a pair of teen- age best friends who pretend to be a lesbian couple. It's part of a roundabout scheme to become more popular, but things get complicated when Amy develops real romantic feelings for her friend — feelings that Karma doesn't return. It's a pretty classic story with a lesbian twist, and the reverbera- tions of the shocking kiss that closed out season 2 will be felt throughout season 3. Along with the two leading la- dies, the main cast is rounded out by Gregg Sulkin ("Wizards of Wa- verly Place") as Karma's romantic crush, Bailey De Young ("Bun- heads") as Amy's stepsister and Michael J.
