to While some of us can't wait for lazy summer days with lots of time to spare, others of us need a calendar brimming full with activities each day. This year's Backyard Adventures will help keep you up-to-date on fun activities planned from now until the end of the year right here in our neck of the woods. From festivals to flea markets to the county fair, and everything in between, you'll find it all in Gibson and Pike counties. Nestled right here in Southern Indiana, you'll find small town commu- nities showing off their deep roots, a strong sense of pride and a knack for having fun during our area's busiest time of the year—Summer! Our annual summer guide provides area residents, travelers and out-of-town folks with all they need to know about what to see and do during their visit to our neck of the woods. So pack up the sunscreen, snacks and water bottles and have yourself a terrific fun-filled summer. Of course, the guide focuses on events in Gibson and Pike counties, like the Haubstadt Som- merfest, the Catfish Festival, Otwell's Independence Celebration and the wildly popular Zoar Mosquito Festival to name a few, but we've also went beyond our borders and listed events in nearby places like Evansville, Vincennes, Jasper, Mount Carmel, Ill., and Henderson, Ky. As your reading, remember many of these festivals also serve as community fundraisers. The sponsoring organizations are turning hot dogs into dollars, which are then funneled right back into our communities in the form of scholarships, park improvements and civic endeavors. So instead of feeding your gas tank this summer, feed your sense of adventure and go local—try out a new festival. We promise there's plenty to choose from. So pull up a chair, grab a tall glass of ice tea and read along as we take you on a road-trip journey through our neck of the woods. And we'll show you what a small town festival really is in our 2012 Backyard Adventures Guide. Happy Summer!
