Collins (Purefoy) is an East Texas
native who is averse to guns and
violence, preferring to use them
only as a last resort whenever he
finds himself in trouble — which is
often. His best friend is Leonard
Pine (Williams), a Vietnam vet with
anger issues and far fewer qualms
with violence — especially when-
ever racist or homophobic lan-
guage is directed his way.
Christina Hendricks ("Mad
Men") also stars as Hap's ex-wife
and the catalyst for the boys' latest
adventure. Pollyanna McIntosh
("The Woman," 2011), Bill Sage
("Mysterious Skin," 2004) and Neil
Sandilands ("Proteus," 2003) help
round out the extensive cast.
It's high-stakes mayhem for the
pair of friends in the wilds of East
Texas. "Hap and Leonard" pre-
mieres Wednesday, March 2, on
SundanceTV.
History's out: Out with the
old, in with the new, as they say.
H2, the second history-focused
channel owned by A+E Net-
works, won't be found anywhere
on the dial come the end of Feb-
ruary this year. Instead, the
struggling channel is being re-
placed by the new Viceland
channel.
It's a hip new channel that,
just like the news and lifestyle
website Vice, is being aimed
straight at the millennial genera-
tion, and with a new channel
comes a host of new shows that
executives are no doubt hoping
will find an audience.
The launch program that's at-
tracting the most buzz online
would probably be actress Ellen
Page's "Gaycation," premiering
Wednesday, March 2. Part travel
show, part lifestyle program and
part social commentary, "Gayca-
tion" is aimed squarely at the
progressive younger generation
that Viceland is looking to attract.
Canadian-born actress Page
has starred in a number of block-
buster films, including "Incep-
tion" (2010) and "X-Men: Days
of Future Past" (2014). She pub-
licly came out in 2014, and since
then has become an outspoken
gay rights activist.
In "Gaycation," Page travels
around the world, from distant
Japan to Brazil, and to closer des-
tinations such as the Iowa State
Fair. Wherever she goes, with her
camera crew in tow, she's check-
ing in on what life is like for the
LGBTQ people living there.
She spends time with them to
learn how the popular gay culture
varies from place to place, but she
also takes a look at the other side
of the coin, meeting with and inter-
viewing the people publicly fight-
ing against the advancement of
rights for gay people.
It's exactly the style of pro-
gressive, embedded journalism
for which Vice is known, and it's
just one of the new shows that's
coming to the new Viceland
channel.
