TV Media Weekly | February 20 - 26, 2016 8 | Sunday afternoon ment by Fox. But for the first time in the franchise's long run, this new installment does not in- clude Sutherland. The new series focuses instead on an entirely new cast of characters, and while it's still early on in the de- velopment process, showrunners have already found the reboot's leading man and leading lady. Corey Hawkins ("Straight Outta Compton," 2015) and Miranda Otto ("Homeland") have both signed on to the proj- ect, which also features the same writers and executive pro- ducers as the original series. Hawkins stars as Eric Carter, a decorated veteran who is strug- gling to adjust to civilian life. His past, though, refuses to leave him be. Otto's Rebecca Ingram, meanwhile, is described as be- ing the former head of the Counter Terrorist Unit and the wife of a very high-ranking pub- lic official. As the first show in the "24" franchise to not star Suther- land's Jack Bauer, "24: Legacy" has some rather big shoes to fill. The Fox series is still in early production, with no release date yet announced. Oprah's back: Don't worry Oprah Winfrey fans; she's not go- ing anywhere any time soon. Al- though her talk show, which ran for decades, went off the air for good in 2011 (after bringing in a whopping 47 Daytime Emmys), that doesn't mean that the "Queen of All Media" is retired — far from it. She's heading back to the screen in her first recurring, scripted role in more than two decades. "Greenleaf" premieres on OWN with a special two-night event Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24 and 25. The drama sees Winfrey play Mavis, the owner of a Blues club. She's also the aunt of Grace Greenleaf (Merle Dan- dridge, "The Night Shift") — a preacher and the estranged daughter of a mega church bishop (Keith David, "Community"). Winfrey hasn't starred in a scripted series since the 1989 TV movie "The Women of Brewster Place" and its brief spinoff show, "Brewster Place," in 1990. "Green- leaf" focuses on Grace's family struggles as she returns home after 20 years when her sister dies under mysterious circumstances. Al- though Grace tries to patch things up with her father, mother (Lynn Whitfield, "The Josephine Baker Story," 1991) and living sister (Deborah Joy Winans, "Whitney," 2015), a lot has changed since she left, and tensions run high when she returns. Kim Hawthorne ("The Chroni- cles of Riddick," 2004) and Grego- ry Alan Williams ("Terminator Genisys," 2015) also star as mem- bers of the extended Greenleaf family, who may not be as virtuous as they want their congregation to think. 02/21 1 PM 1:30 2 PM 2:30 3 PM 3:30 4 PM 4:30 5 PM 5:30 6 PM 6:30 S1 S2 WTTV 4 NCAA Basketball Big-10 Wild Card Michigan at Maryland (L) P PGA Golf Northern Tour Final Round Site: Riviera Country Club -- Pacific Palisades, Calif.
