"The U.S. military is the epitome of resolve and dedication, which is why I am so excited to be a part of 'American Grit,'" Cena said in a news release. "This show will not only be a challenging and fierce competition, but it will give view- ers a glimpse into the persever- ance and training of the men and women of the armed forces." In each of the 10 episodes of the series, Cena and a team of military- trained experts push each group to their limits. The first team to com- plete a challenge is safe from elimi- nation, but each episode includes a run through "the Circus," a punish- ing obstacle course designed to be so intense that many competitors cannot make it through, weeding out the weakest of each bunch. Brent Montgomery, executive producer for the show, praises Cena and the work he does, saying that "with John as their inspira- tion, our contestants will show viewers what happens when you swing for the fences with focus, commitment and teamwork." No premiere date has been is- sued yet, but the show is expected to air this spring on Fox. Dead funny: The creators of "The Good Wife" are back at it, and CBS is hoping their newest venture will be as successful as the last. The upcoming summer series "BrainDead" stars "Cold Case" frontman Danny Pino and "Mercy Street's" Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The comedy/thriller follows Lau- rel (Winstead), an up-and-coming staffer on Capitol Hill who discov- ers that aliens have arrived on Earth and have been devouring the brains of congressmen and other Hill staffers. The revelation throws Laurel's life into turmoil — her dream job and political aspirations must take a back seat as she strives to save the world. Pino plays Laurel's brother, Luke, a senator from Maryland and the Democratic whip. Though "Cold Case" was Pino's big break, he's now coming off of a four-year stint as Det. Nick Amaro in NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Broadway star Aaron Tveit is also set to star in the show as Ga- reth, a witty and pragmatic Re- publican operative. He'll serve as both a foil and a love interest for Winstead's Laurel. Tveit has starred in some of Broadway's big- gest productions, such as "Rent," "Hairspray," "Next to Normal" and "Wicked," but it was his guest arc in "Gossip Girl" that spring- boarded him into the television spotlight.
