South Mountains State Park Nature Detectives Join a Park Ranger this spring break to learn all sorts of fun stuff about water crit- ters, trees, animals, and fi sh just to name a few. Programs will be offered from April 9 to April 13. The same program will be offered twice a day at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. See be- low for program schedule and descriptions. Attend at least three (3) different program topics and become a certifi ed Nature Detec- tive. April 9: "Owl Pellets" Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center to examine owl pellets and reconstruct prey skeletons. Owl pellets are clean of fl esh, odorless and can be handled easily by all age groups. April 10: "What's in the Water?" Join a Park Ranger in the stream to turn over some rocks and learn more about what you might fi nd there. Come prepared to get wet!! Meet at the Visitor Center. April 11: "Bats" Are bats blind? Do they fl y into your hair? Do they turn into vampires? Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center to learn some Bat facts and have an opportunity to view some Bats. April 12: "Tracks" Join a Ranger at the Visitor Center to learn about common animal tracks and their mak- ers. Make our own track to take home. April 13: "Animals of the South Mountains" Join a Park Ranger and learn about some of South Mountains animals and their adapta- tions. Please meet at the Picnic Shelter in the Jacob Fork Parking Area. South Mountains State Park is located south of Morganton off of old Highway 18.
