"Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through Him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross. But God raised Him from the dead, freeing Him from the agony of death, because it was im- possible for death to keep its hold on him" (Acts 2:22-24). While this may seem anticlimactic, we submit that patience is our greatest need. We need pa- tience to put up with the world's wickedness, the abortions, etc., patience in knowing the Second Com- ing of Christ will right the world's wrongs. We need pa- tience as televangelists con- tinue to dominate the air- waves with their dilutions and pollutions of the gos- pel, and patience as Bible teachers muddle the minds of the saints by their failure to rightly divide the Word. And since no man today has the gift of healing, we need patience with our physical infirmities, and longsuffer- ing as we wait for that won- derful change that will come to our bodies at the Rapture (Philippians 3:20, 21). Finally, we need patience strengthened to all patience "according to His glorious power," but what is God's glorious power? The de- structive power He exhibit- ed at the Red Sea is called "glorious" (Exodus 15:6), but we suggest that God's glorious power today is seen in His patience. The fact that God could put an end to the abortions and religious con- fusion, but doesn't, is His most glorious power in the dispensation of grace. The apostle concludes by praying that we might be pa- tient "with joyfulness," per- haps the hardest part of longsuffering. God doesn't chafe under the vexations He receives from the world, religion, and the Body of Christ, and neither should we! If this kind of power speak of a coming storm of economic ruin and the threats of war. In this dark and desperate hour Easter brings hope. The Gospel speaks of many theological events but the greatest of all is the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The promise of Easter is one of hope in a world falling apart with fear and uncertainty. Our political leaders seem to have no answer. Hollywood and the liberal educational system have destroyed our moral values. The message of Easter is that Christ is ris- en and there is eternal hope for all who accept Christ as Savior. From Genesis to Revela- tion, the Bible is geographi- cally centered in Israel and the city of Jerusalem. The historic city again became Israeli territory with the Six Day war of 1967. I was in Is- rael just before the 1967 war and returned soon after. Je- rusalem is the religious cen- ter of the world with signif- icance for Jews, Christians and Muslims. In this city, Chris- tianity had its beginning. The New Testament church was born in Jerusalem. It was in this city that Christ wept. It was just outside of this city that Christ died.
