We had a chance to regain the game in the seventh and just barely fell short," said Coach Tharp. "These two games were a fantastic start for the Lady Charger softball team. We have high hopes for this season and are on the right road to achieving them. My girls work very hard in prac- tice every single day and I know they want a champi- onship as badly as I do. We are fortunate to have added so many new players to the team for this year. This has helped tremendously in be- ing able to practice those live situations. All of this piled with great attitudes makes for a very happy coach!!" Varsity Boys Basketball Awards its awards dinner. They did keep their heads high. They are learn- ing more and more every practice and game," said H Sports Tidbits Continued from Page B1 Ameriprise Financial and part-time swim coach at Evansville Central High School. It reads: "Dear Principal Kelley: My name is Scott A. Scales and, in my "spare time", I am assistant swim coach for boys and girls swim teams at Central High School in Evansville. Last week, on 8 February, our boys team held their annual, end-of- regular-season swim meet (along with Bosse High School) at Pike Central. As always, I enjoy coming to this meet as I was a swim- mer for Southridge in Hunt- ingburg and I have fond memories of swimming at Pike Central (I always enjoy seeing Ron Whaley's name still on the "record" board from our time of competing against each other from 1976-1980). "I wanted to bring to your attention how im- pressed I was with the boys on the Pike Central team and the outstanding sports- manship they displayed during our meet. Specifi- cally, one of the swimmers for the Bosse team is a special needs student that competes mightily, but struggles to make much "forward progress" while in the water. I have watched this young man swim all season in Evansville and, while he routinely receives encouragement from those in attendance, the Pike Central swim team made it a point to cheer and encour- age this young man. Even while his own teammates sat along the side of the pool, several Pike Central swimmers stood at each end of the pool and cheered for this young man while he swam. Others walked along the edge of the pool and fol- lowed him and encouraged him with every stroke. "At the conclusion of the meet, I let the coaches know how impressed I was with their team and I also tried to tell as many of the boys how much I appreciat- ed their conduct; however, in case I didn't get to all of the boys, I wanted to let you know so that you may pass along my appreciation and let them know their actions did not go unno- ticed. Congratulations and best wishes for a successful Boy's Sectional." Here is an e-mail note from Alicia Buse at South Spencer High School on something she received from Susan Rapp after a swim meet involving the Chargers as well. "I just wanted you to know how touched, proud, inspired and impressed Pete and I were last night, not only with our South Spencer swimmers, but with Pike Central swim- mers. Especially when they were cheering Megan on and hi-5'd her when she got done and out of the pool. Talk about good sports- manship—I thought it was excellent. She really is improving I just wish she'd wear her swim cap. Thank you for all you've done for her."
