The Press-Dispatch ★ Church news Continued from page 4 FIRST CHURCH OF GOD 2135 East Main Street Petersburg Welcome to First Church of God. You are always wel- come here. It's the end of your search for a friendly church. We are excited about a couple of activities here at the church. On Sunday eve- ning, March 18 at 5 p.m. we will have a fellowship meal together. The theme of the meal is "Chicken Soup For the Soul" with the meal con- sisting of anything made with chicken. Use your imagination and plan to join us on an evening when we will share good food and inspirational words for the soul. We are also planning our Family and Friend Day scheduled for Sunday, April 1. This would be a great op- portunity to invite your fam- ily and friends and join us for worship at 9:30. Looking forward to see- ing you this Sunday and re- member God loves you and so do we. Joe Shouse, Pastor HOUSE OF MERCY Sunday morning worship service 10; Children's class 10:10; Teen class 10:45; Sunday and Thursday night services at 7. We are a Full Gospel Church that believes the fullness of the Bible. We are a Pentecostal church and truly the Spirit of the Lord is in this place. If you are looking for a church that will welcome you with open arms and heart, that has a family atmosphere, come and see. Nursing home servic- es fourth Sunday of each month at Amber Manor in Petersburg at 2 p.m. and there will be no night ser- vice at House of Mercy on this day. Every other Tuesday night is intercessory prayer at 7, beginning February 7, at House of Mercy. We will be ministering at Lighthouse Recovery Satur- day night March 31 at 7 p.m. One day the eastern sky is going to reveal our Jesus on the clouds of glory with a shout and the voice of an archangel and the trump of God and the dead in Christ will rise first and we that re- main shall be caught up with them to meet Him in the air and forever be with Him. Comfort each other with these words. Will you be in Jesus that you will be able to see Him and hear His voice and leave this world of pain and sorrow to live with him in glory for eternity. Do you know Him as Lord and Saviour? If you don't know Him in a personal re- lationship nor have that love for Him in your life no bet- ter time than now to have it, just ask Him into your life, turn your eyes, and heart up- on Jesus, call out His name and He will be there in your midst. Become His today and fill that emptiness that is in your life. Be ready for that day when He comes to take His children home. There is no greater joy in life than know- ing our heavenly Father and a relationship with Jesus. Pray for your neighbors, friends, and loved ones that are lost and for those that are sick in body. We pray you will be blessed this week and find joy in your life that is joy unspeakable. May good things come your way and you find a church this week in which you can wor- ship the creator of your life and have peace that passes all understanding. Letters to the editor Wants open house at Pike Forest To The Editor: I read, with great interest, the article regarding "open house" at Pike State Forest, and I agree! We need and have a time to "show off" a beautiful area and have tours through the State For- est. For several years I worked at Vincennes University and had the privilege of taking quite a number of students on tours in the State Forest. They were very interest- ed and fascinated about the Iron Bridge and various oth- er areas. One boy had nev- er seen a mushroom grow- ing! I showed him where to look and he found a grocery sack full. I say we should have open house at Pike State Forest. Edman I. Stewart Meth dealer ponders mistakes To The Editor: I have made many mis- takes in my life, one in which I am currently pay- ing for; dealing in metham- phetamine. During this ex- perience, I have had time to ponder my mistakes and I have come to the conclu- sion that drug dealers are losers. Now realizing that, I am serious about heading in a different direction in my life; a life that will nev- er put my family and I in this situation again, and by God's grace and guidance, I know that I never will again. Knowing all this now, I want the Court, the Prosecutor, Pike County Law Enforce- ment and all the citizens of Pike County to know that I am sorry for my actions and the fact that I came to Pike County to deal Meth. I realize that many fami- lies in this county have chil- dren and morals, and that Meth will not be tolerated in this county neither by Pike County Law Enforce- ment nor the citizens of the county. Since we know that everyone has made mis- takes in their lives, I hope that everyone in Pike Coun- ty can forgive me and give me a second chance in life. I write this letter to put my- self before the mercy of the citizens of Pike County and to say that I am truly sorry to all of you. I now realize that Pike County Law Enforce- ment takes a hard stance on meth and that I deserved ev- erything I received in this case. There are too many peo- ple touched or hurt by Meth in this county and I have re- alized I do not want to be the person contributing to such problems in the community. I now enjoy all the things I took for granted, Meth puts a smoke cloud in front of you and destroys your mind set. I have clear eyes now, have learned and faced my ad- diction and want to contin- ue with a new life, and en- joy all those things I took for granted. I was sentenced to the Wabash Valley Work Re- lease Program and I want to express to all those cur- rently involved in Metham- phetamine, what you have to look forward to: It costs a lot of money to stay here; not sure the place helps as much as they charge for you to be here; the place it- self is disgusting; the food is disgusting; I currently live with 120 men and it is hard to get along with all of them; I hate being controlled by weekend passes; I hate not have freedom of choice; the bed mate above me snores all night; it is never dark in the place, the lights are al- ways on. I have to basically have permission to use the bath- room; there are no door on the bathroom stalls and peo- ple walk by constantly; I am surrounded by beds and all of them are three inch- es apart; and lastly, there is no privacy at all. So to all of you involved in Meth, you will get caught and in Pike County, you will go to Wa- bash Valley; there is no toler- ance for Meth in Pike Coun- ty. To those, I will see you soon and to those in Pike County that are not involved in Meth, I am truly sorry for bringing it to your commu- nity. I want to thank Pike County Law Enforcement for changing my life and be- ing stern, I would have nev- er realized the harm I have caused without such a pun- ishment. Sincerely, Guy Thomas Resident of Wabash Valley We invite all of you to come and worship with us. The wisdom of children You can't out smart the kids in Sunday school, they are way too smart. I ask the children—"If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale, and gave all my money to the church, would I get into heaven? 'No,' all the children answered. "If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would I get into heaven?" Again the answer was, no. Well, 'I continued, then how can I get to heav- en?' A five-year-old boy shouted, 'You gotta be dead.' "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3). May God bless you this week. Roy C. Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter PLEASANT RIDGE G.B. CHURCH Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10:30; eve- ning service 6:30; Wednes- day evening Bible study and PR youth meeting 6:30. Ev- eryone is always welcome. We want to thank God for His mercy, love and an- swered prayer. Continue to pray for one another, the unsaved, the prayer list, for all who are traveling, the sick and needy, for the ones in hospitals and nurs- ing homes, the military, and their families and the Pres- ident and his family and all decisions that are made. We want to extend our sympathy to anyone who has lost a loved one. If you love God, you will obey Him. Trust in God in all circumstances. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6). Trust in Him for every- thing; He will never leave you or forsake you. The Ho- ly Spirit lives in us and He works through us. He en- ables us to do what God wants us to do and He shows us when something is wrong. God loves us uncondition- ally. No matter how people treat us or feel about us, God loves us. God is in control of our life and He will cause everything to work for our good. If we want to stay on track, we have to keep our eyes on our destination— Heaven. Our trip ends with our last breath and we have reached our destination. There is no changing it af- ter death. Remember—The past is out of our control and the future is in God's hands. Thought: Give and it shall be given you—you can't out give God. Have a great week. Dale Frederick, Pastor Lois K. Fowler, Reporter SPURGEON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Church service 9; Sunday school 10. Read II Corinthians 5:14- 21. "We are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life" (Ephesians 2:10). No matter what life has done to us, God offers us res- toration and hope. Prayer— Lord, help us to value each person, looking at one an- other through your eyes of love. Amen Everyone welcome. Honna Schloss, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter Wednesday, March 7, 2012 C-5 Car wash helps PC Baseball Members of the Pike Central High School baseball team were out Satur- day washing cars for anyone who wanted to make a donation to the baseball team. Text for next Sunday—I Kings 3:1-28. Remember to pray dai- ly for those on our March prayer list. Read Proverbs 15:1-4. "A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger" (Proverbs 15:1). A soft answer has often been the means of breaking a hard heart. Everyone welcome to our services. Dr. Robert Asa, Minister ABUNDANT LIFE PENTECOSTAL CHURCH 409 S. 4th St., Petersburg Sunday services 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Thursday ser- vice 7; casual study groups for men and women the last Thursday of each month. Come and experience the Pentecostal way with praise, worship and music along with the anointed word of God. Come and experience the blessings and presence of the Lord. God is doing great things for His people in our services. Won't you come and be a part of it? Read I Corinthians 13:4-5. Paul tells us that love bears all things, it keeps no record of wrongs. Life has a way of unload- ing its trash on us. Your hus- band works too much. Your wife gripes too much. Your boss expects too much. Your kids whine too much. The result? Trash. Load af- ter load of anger, guilt, bit- terness, anxiety, deceit, and impatience. It all piles up. Trash piles up and contaminates our relationships. It did Cain's. He had anger in his mind before he had blood on his hands. Mark it down. To- day's thoughts are tomor- row's actions. 1. Today's jealousy is to- morrow's temper tantrum. 2. Today's bigotry is to- morrow's hate crime. 3. Today's lust is tomor- row's adultery. 4. Today's anger is tomor- row's abuse. 5. Today's greed is tomor- row's embezzlement. 6. Today's thoughts are tomorrow's actions. Could this be why Paul wrote, "Love . . . keeps no record of wrongs?" If we let trash on board our lives , people are going to smell it. We would be much better off if we had never allowed the trash to pile up. You can stick with your garbage or you can allow Je- sus to get rid of it and over- haul your life. He can give Pell Insurance Agcy Inc 612 East Main Street Petersburg, IN 47567 Bus: 812-354-6038 you a complete makeover, but you are the one who makes the decision to allow him to do it. Get rid of that trash! For questions or more in- formation call 766-3474. Troy Johnson, Pastor Ron Ficklin, Reporter MT. PISGAH G.B. CHURCH "Blessed is the man whose strength is in you" (Psalm 84:5). Jesus used the carefree attitude of the birds to un- derscore the fact that wor- rying is unnatural. "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap—yet your heavenly Father feeds them" (Matthew 6:26). If He cares for tiny birds and frail flowers, why can't we count on Him for every aspect of our lives? After all, He loves us so much that He sent His Son into the world to save us. We are that valuable to Him.
