Poplar Street, Petersburg NEWS BRIEFS Winslow Council reschedules meeting to Nov. 16 The Winslow Town Council has rescheduled their 7 p.m. Monday, November 9 meeting to 7 p.m. on Mon- day, November 16. Veteran benefit program at Oakland City library Join Gibson County Veterans Service Officer Jer- ry Wright as he discusses benefits available to those who have served our country. Wright's program will be Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. in the Oakland City Public Library Meeting Room. Regardless of when the service was or if the mem- ber retired or not, learn what local, state and federal benefits to which former service members are enti- tled. No registration is required. Fundraiser at Winslow Community Center Nov. 14 Winslow Community Center and Winslow Economic Development Committee will sponsor a breakfast and lunch fundraiser at the Community Center on Satur- day, Nov. 14, 2015. Breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and continue with lunch until 7 p.m. Breakfast will be sausage, gravy and biscuits, and drink for $ 3.50, and lunch will in- clude soup and drink for $4 or hotdog, chips and drink for $ 3.50. Blue Jeans Center will host Sunday dinner The Blue Jeans Community Center in Monroe City will host Sunday dinner, November 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu will include: ham, chicken, stuffing casse- role, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, front porch salad, bread and desserts. Carry-outs available. All proceeds benefit the center. Christmas Bazaar and Flea Market at Winslow Community Center this Saturday The Winslow Community Center and The Economic Development are sponsoring a Christmas Bazaar and Flea Market on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the large banquet room at the Community Center. The Community Center will be serving breakfast and lunch. All crafters and vendors are invited. Early set- up on Friday, Nov. 14. Free Admission. All proceeds will benefit the walking trail. For information, call 812-766 -9363. Friends of Otwell meeting Nov. 17 The Friends of Otwell will be having a public meet- ing, Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Otwell Commu- nity Center. Everyone is welcome. Petersburg Lions Club dinner and game night Nov. 17 The Petersburg Lions Club will be having a fund- raiser at the Village Inn, November 17, from 6 -9 p.m. EST, with soup, sandwiches and other fixings. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the evening. Funds raised will support the various projects of the Petersburg Lions Club. Flu vaccines available at Health Dept. The Pike County Health Department has flu vac- cines available for $20. Medicare billing is available for those 65 years of age and older. Pike County Health Nurse Amy Gladish said the first death of the year from influenza was reported last week. "It isn't wide-spread yet, but it is starting to show up. So now is the time to get a flu shot." Gladish said it typically takes about two weeks for the shots to be come fully effective. The Health De- partment is open Monday through Friday, but making an appointment to get a flu shot is recommended by calling 812-354-8797. SR 64 closed in Princeton for railroad repair The Indiana Department of Transportation announc- es a road closure for State Road 64 in Princeton as rail- road crews repair a crossing in the area beginning Monday, Nov. 9. Starting at 8 a.m., S.R. 64 will be closed from U.S. 41 to the east intersection of S.R. 65. CSX Crews will resurface the crossing near Dorsey Street. The clo- sure will be in place around the clock; it's expected to last until Friday, Nov. 13, depending upon weath- er conditions. The official detour for the closure follows U.S. 41, S.R. 56 and S.R. 65. Winter Wonderland Pageant accepting entries Winter Wonderland Pageant is accepting entries from girls 0 -18. She is the daughter of Don In- gle and Patty (Polen) In- gle, and granddaughter of the late Don "Butch" and Irene Polen, and Edward and Maude Ingle. She is employed at Bal- larmine University as a clinical instructor and also works as a PRN at Clark Memorial Hospital for the mother/baby unit. The Ingles previously re- sided in Otwell and Jas- per. Duplex demolition Tony Camp uses a backhoe to tear down a burned out duplex at the corner of Fourth and Sycamore streets in Petersburg. The vacant building burned on February 2, 2015. The City of Petersburg hired Camp, who was the low bidder to raze the building.
