No postcards this week for Sweet's Column, Win- slow, IN 47598, but we did receive a note of interest. We receive a note from Janie Tormohlen with an article where Rosa Yearout and other Idahoans shared their joy of seeing Pope Francis in Sept. at the closing mass for the world meeting of families in Phila- delphia. The note read: "Hi Sweets, en- joy reading the opinion/com- mentary 'On the Trail' by Ro- sa Yearout. Happy Thanks- giving" – Janie Tormohlen. Janie: The article "On the Trail" was very inter- esting to read and I almost felt the enjoyment they had when the Pope drove by. We hope that you also have a Happy Thanksgiving. Winslow had some rain last week with thunder and lightning, then the cold weather came for a visit over the weekend. Leaves are still falling and you can, in Winslow, bring your leaves to the compost pile at the Sports Field where the old timers court is. Some yards have Hallow- een still up but some yards are decorating for Thanks- giving with the pilgrims and scarecrows dressed up. I'm watching the yard on First and Brenton to see the new items this year. Last Tuesday was the elections for Petersburg and the large election in Winslow where 158 citi- zens out of 629 citizens vot- ed. I guess 158 of our citi- zens were better than our last election, but this wasn't even half of its citizen who came out to vote for their choice of Town Council and Clerk-Treasurer. I guess you know who won, but if not: Ward 1 – Richard Brewster; Ward 2 – Greg Simmons; Ward 3 – Terry Strobel; Clerk-Trea- surer – Beth Ann Bennett. They will serve for the next three years. Have you ever looked at the sky and saw the sun rays shining down like the past two days? They were just amazing to see how wide the rays were. I was told that this was God talking to someone. The clouds were amazing to watch as they spanned over the sky in waves and they all weren't alike, then with the sun setting and the red streaks of color through the clouds, they were awesome. We got to see Kyana this past week and she got her Halloween candy from us and Granny Mid. We got to see Laura also as she and Norm took walks through town and they ate break- fast at the Riverside Park. Vernon, Dixie, Karen and Bob met in Evansville for lunch at a Chinese res- taurant for Vernon's birth- day, which was Nov. 3, he celebrated his 71st birth- day. Well, I know it's a hole in the ground but it's time to dim the lights on this week's rambling, but I hope you all keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and enjoy life. Stop for all school buses and al- ways smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone you see this week. SUBSCRIBE TODAY! 812-354-8500 We're not afraid to shed some light on the truth.
