Many more stars outside Winslow and be- yond are not excluded, so with your cards, visits, phone calls and your dai- ly thoughts they will know they are important and they will heal faster if we think of them daily including Jan- ice Sucech, Jr. McDonald, Virginia Norrick, Mildred Virden, Sylvia Wheeler, Lin- da Daugherty, Brian Kin- man and Arvle Wade just to name a few plus those stars you know in your area. The pam- phlets aren't made yet but I hope to see a copy of one before it gets too much later then we will know what is do- ne where and at what time. Sept. 19 – Pike County Tractor Drive. Winslow senior citizens meet at the community cen- ter on Monday and Tues- day. Petersburg senior citi- zens meet in the courthouse basement on Monday, Tues- day, Wednesday and Friday. No postcards this week. Points of interest were some corrections from last week's column. First was a correc- tion on the Winslow Fire Dept. and Ladies Auxilia- ry Outhouse Races will be $20 a team up to five play- ers and not $10. Cornhole tourney is still $10 a team. Second correction is that the yard on Brenton Street is at the home of Janie Davis, not Janice Sucech. The Patoka Riv- er is down quite a bit from last week with no rain and the temps have been in the 80s with 60s at night. Saturday morn- ing we had a few sprinkles for a second or two but the Winslow Riverside Flea Market went off just fine with 11 vendors plus the Winslow Lions serv - ing breakfast and lunch. This was the last of three months that Lisa and Susan put on to help out our town of Winslow. We are grate- ful and will see them again next year in June, July and August. There will be some of the vendors you saw at Riverside Park that be set up at the Beautification Flea Market for the Winslow Community Festival on Sept. 19 on Main Street. I believe the spaces are $10 for a 10x10 space and the flyers are in some of the businesses in Winslow with a registration form. They are also available at Win- slow Town Hall. Did you see the mete- or showers on Wednesday, Aug. 12? We set out from 10 p.m. until midnight and saw a few in the northeast sky but Norm said around 3-4 a.m. there wasn't too much more than the earlier time. There was one meteor that I saw was bright and had a long trail where the others were short and if you would blink you missed it. The Winslow Overlook has been or is still in repair by a concerned star of the Winslow area who loves to bring his daughter there to enjoy the view. Daniel N. Fair has done a fine job by putting up wire along the rails where the spokes are and the walkway will soon have non skid treads for all of us to walk with slipping to awfully much. All of us stars who use this overlook appre- ciates you volunteering your time. The public is grateful to Robert Burke who sprayed two times at Winslow Riv- erside Park for mosquitoes. I was down there Saturday and we didn't get bitten one time and that is really great. Through Nathan Hale of Region 15 for the income survey to get a grant for waste and storm water proj- ects, there will be several volunteers from Winslow, yes, your neighbor who has said yes. I'll go door to door to get 40 more surveys. You don't have to sign this sur- vey to get the grant need- ed to do some needed proj- ects in town. Not to raise any rates, Just the needed sur- vey and this is the fourth time we have sent out sur- veys, so door to door is the way to go. So please do the right thing for your Town of Winslow. The councilmen of Win- slow are selling more prop- erty. How much more can Winslow lose? Do you care about the growth of Win- slow? Have you lost your pride in Winslow? Yes, I, Barb Sweet, want Winslow to grow and survive and with more to volunteer with your ideas it ( Winslow) can survive if businesses and stars work together. Julie Loehr of the Alliance for Rural Water was at the recent Town Board meeting and said she thought of Win- slow when a person will pay and install the $2,000 sec- tion to help show others a healthier or cleaner way to have our rain water put in- to the river that can help fil- ter the debris from the side- walk through the ground and then into the river. So come to the town meeting to see how this can be done. All we have to do is keep it clean by way of a power wash and swept off. At the Winslow Econom- ic and Development meeting we heard the Meet and Greet the new candidates for Win- slow will be Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Communi- ty Center. Everyone in Win- slow is invited and especial- ly the new candidates. What do we expect the new Town Board should know from its citizens? Do you know all the candidates? This is a chance to meet each one and voice your views for Winslow. There are a few I heard of but don't know just who they are so I will be there on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. Saturday night in Fer- dinand the storm came through where it blew over Otwell UM Church donates proceeds from 4th of July The students and parents at Otwell Elementary worked together with the Otwell United Methodist Church at the Otwell Ruritan Fourth of July celebration hamburger stand. We saw the pictures on the internet. Kelly Bailey and Troy Hamilton were married on Saturday. Kelly is the daugh- ter of Bruce and Cindy Bai- ley and niece of Greg and Li- sa Poehlein. So congratula- tions from Sweet's Column. It was real nice to have met Vickie Oxby, who is Winslow Elementary School's nurse and is over the Pike County schools as nurse. The Igloo has rock on its driveway and a new sign in front like The Trading Post. The former Winslow Mar- ket Place is to open soon and has had activity at the building, so we hope to see the shelves packed and the doors open for business soon. My hand is getting a cramp in it so as the lights begin to dim on this week's rambling, I hope you keep an eye on family and friends, slow down for kids going and come home from school, and always smile, wave and say "hi" to every you see this week.
