16 • Milwaukee County Post • June 26, 2015 continued from Page 1 Waukesha County Board Chairman Paul Decker, who also attended the forum, pointed to a series of local issues that have likely stalled expand- ed mass transit in the Milwaukee region. "(Mass transit) is important to us from an economic development stand- point," Decker said. "We do have com- panies in this county who want to be involved in the discussions. I think better dialogue and better communi- cation are important." Officials from two comparable cities — Cleveland and Minneapolis — were among the panelists who spoke of recent transportation efforts. They spoke of their respective communi- ties' challenges and outcomes. Cleveland and Minneapolis have similarities to Milwaukee, including a heavy reliance on bus routes for mass transit. Cleveland offers 68 daily routes, while Minneapolis has 129 routes. Milwaukee, by comparison, offers 76 routes. But the two Midwestern cities have expanded their reach within the past decade, offering variations of the light, heavy and commuter rail routes that had been proposed in the Milwaukee region, but eventually fell flat. Mike Schipper, deputy general manager of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, attributed $6.3 billion of development in sections of the city to a bus-based rapid transit line that was constructed in 2008. The development, Schipper said, occurred along or near the bus line. "This was an investment," Schipper said. "But it came after 50 or 60 years of doing nothing. The city decided to do something after years of disinvestment in a number of areas." David Frank, director of economic policy and development, painted a similar portrait in Minneapolis. Frank said he believed a year-old light rail line served as a catalyst for bring- ing $2.8 billion in development to the impacted area. Similar to Milwaukee, Frank said historic and recent efforts to expand transit in Minneapolis and the greater Twin Cities area have been met with political ideological resistance. "I don't stand here pretending that any of this was easy," Frank said. "It took a bipartisan effort. This is not a walk in the park, but you have to per- severe." In addition to enhancing their respective cities' tax bases with the new development, Schipper and Frank also pointed to job growth and new housing developments. Milwaukee: Mass transit an investment WEST ALLIS — First- ring Industrial Redevelopment Enter- prise, Inc., an affiliated entity of the city of West Allis, announced today that it was chosen by the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund of the U.S. Department of Treasury to receive a $35 million dol- lar New Markets Tax Credit allocation. FIRE was one of only 76 organizations that were selected through a nation- wide competitive applica- tion and rigorous review process to receive a tax credit allocation under the 2015 round of the NMTC program. "This is a huge win for West Allis and Southeastern Wisconsin. With this capital we will be able to bring a number of projects to life that can provide long-term, mean- ingful benefits to some of our most neglected com- munities," said John Stibal, president of First- ring Industrial Redevelopment Enter- prise, Inc. "We are particu- larly grateful to Congressman Paul Ryan and Congresswoman Gwen Moore for their assistance and support of the NMTC program and to the CDFI Fund which rec- ognizes the intensity of distress here in the Southeastern Wisconsin." This year's award will bring the total NMTC allo- cations received by FIRE to $193 million. The organization will use the additional funds to help finance health care, education, commercial, and community recreation facilities in low-income communities throughout Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties. — Post Staff First-ring Industrial Redevelopment Enterprise awarded $35 million in tax credits COORS & COORS LIGHT $ 17 99 NEW BELGIUM BREWING $ 12 99 BUD & BUD LIGHT $ 17 99 30 PACK CANS BUSCH & BUSCH LIGHT $ 14 99 WINE & LIQUOR 4075 South Howell Avenue • 481-3500 • Fax 481-3567 Hours: Daily 9am-9pm • Sundays 10am-5pm We sell & deliver beer & soda wholesale to taverns, church groups, etc. 1.75L $ 11 99 1.75L RYAN'S IRISH CREAM $ 13 69 SMIRNOFF VODKA $ 19 99 CROWN ROYAL $ 40 99 750ML SUTTER HOME 4 PACKS $ 4 49 187ML STINKY GRINGO MARGARITAS $ 13 49 BULLEIT SMALL BATCH RYE $ 22 99 1.75L JAMESON IRISH WHISKY $ 40 99 1.75L 1.75L BOB CHINN'S MAI TAI $ 11 49 CANADIAN MIST 15.59 -3.00 MIR $ 12 49 $ 9 99 ❖ 750ML ❖ Leese Fitch Cabernet . . . . . . . . . . . . $8.49 Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling . . . . . . . . $7.99 Jean-Luc Colombo Rose . . . . . . . . . $10.29 Farmers Italian Red . . . . . . . . . . . . . $9.99 Mercer Pinot Gris . . . . . . . . . . . . . $10.49 Markham Sauvignon Blanc . . . . . . . $9.99 White Night Viognier . . . . . . . . . . . . $8.49 Grayson Chardonnay . . . . . . . . . . . . $8.49 Kendell Jackson Chardonnay . . . . . $11.69 SeaGlass Sauvignon Blanc . . . . . . . . $7.99 Sutter Home White Zinfandel . . . . . $4.39 Gnarly Head Pinot Grigio . . . . . . . . $8.49 WINE OF THE MONTH 1.75L FRUITS OF THE VINE BACARDI LIMON $ 22 99 12 PACK BOTTLES DOS EQUIS AMBER & LAGER $ 11 99 HIGH LIFE & HIGH LIFE LIGHT $ 14 99 12 PACK BOTTLES HACKER PSCHORR WEISSE $ 12 69 MILWAUKEE'S BEST LIGHT & ICE $ 12 99 12 PACK BOTTLES RED STRIPE LAGER $ 11 79 6 PACK BOTTLES PABST $ 15 99 Reg. $9.99 SARACCO MOSCATO D' ASTI 750ML BALVENIE 12 YEAR SCOTCH $ 52 99 ARISTOCRAT BRANDY 14.49 -2.00 MIR $ 12 49 1.75L JACK DANIELS SOULBOXER BRANDY OLD FASHIONED $ 17 69 NEW FREE DELIVERY with $50 Purchase See in store for details "Every Sunday" SAVE 10% on ALL Bloody Mary Mixes And Your Favorite Garnishes Bloody Sunday FUN DAY ➯ ★ ★ 1.75L 750ML 750ML 750ML 44 NORTH HUCKLEBERRY & TANGERINE $ 21 99 O DEEP EDDY FLAVORED VODKA $ 16 79 LITER SKOL VODKA 9.99 -3.00 MIR $ 6 99 1.75L U.V.
