The garden, originally scheduled to be planted in April, is located on the front lawn of the Rutherford County Courthouse, and local children "planted" the pinwheels. Speakers also addressed the need for child abuse prevention and awareness in the community. Helen White, director of nursing of the Rutherford Polk McDowell Health Department, who has led the Child Brutality Prevention Team for the past 20 years, was honored during the event, and presented a plaque by Rutherford County Director of Social Services John Carroll. White is retiring on June 30.
