Kourtney Sanders Staff Writer Rebecca Frey Staff Writer The Red Bluff High School Band and Chior are waiting together for the show to start in Great America in Santa Clara, on May 2. Band and Choir represent in their concerts Hailie Willey Staff Writer Leadership creates a Wonderland for Prom The Elections were held on last Friday, May first. Student Government sent out ballots to all the classes except seniors in order to elect the class officers for next school year. Ryan Gamboa, Jasmine Dittner, and Tanner Durfee all ran for the position of All Student Body, but Gamboa won the election.Junior Brittany Botell ran for ASB VP and won. She explained her reason for running by saying, "I ran because I think I can make positive changes to the school." Also, Rayanne Lockett recieved the spot for All Student Body Treasurer along with Maddy Eicholtz who won All Student Body Secretary. The other juniors who won in the elections, but were only running for senior positions next year instead of the All Student Body were; Nicole Renfroe who got Senior President and Alyssa Jackson for Senior Vice President. Sophomores elected consist of; Dillion Garcia for Junior President, Sarah Herrera for Junior Vice President, Autumn Scholzen for Junior Treasurer, and Natalie Brown for Junior Secretary. Garcia commented on his plans for next year saying, "I want to get more involved in more activities." Herrera also added in her input about what her goals are for next year, "I want to accomplish more involvement in the junior class, and be able to win more rallies," said Herrera. Freshmen who ran for offices include; Chela Martinez who ran for Sophomore President and Ellie Miller who won Sophomore Vice President. Presently, these elections do not mean anything because they do not get to do anything until they take office during next school year. Lets see how many things are actually accomplished next year, congratulations to the winners. Melanie Burke retires after 26 years and will be missed "I'm gonna really miss her, her corny jokes, her okie accent, and our randomly breaking out into songs." - Jill Dais Shania Prieteo Staff Writer Unfortunately Melanie Burke, from the main office, will be retiring. This is her last year and stated she was going to miss, "Being around the people I work with and the performing arts kids." Melany has been working in the at RBHS for 26 years, but she wasn't always the head secretary. She started off as a liaison, working with students and parents, and did that for ten years. Then she was promoted to principal secretary and has kept this job for 16 years. Jill Dais, the student services clerk and community liaison, thinks Mrs. Burke is a wonderful lady and has a wealth of knowledge of our school and is a really good friend. She continued saying, "She is always available, her help with all of the PAC stuff, she always gives 110% for those. She knows so much and it benefits us all, I know I can ask her for help." The kids know they can count on Mrs. Burke for anything. She has a great relationship with the kids, and staff, and seems to always have the right answer for every question. You can see, just by looking, how well united the office staff is, they act like another family and those kind of relationships at work are difficult to make. The office staff all get along very well and can always brighten each others days. Dais stated, "I'm gonna really miss her, her corny jokes, her okie accent, and our randomly breaking out into songs." Band and Choir are having concerts for the end of the year. The band's concert was last night, May seventh. The theme was Sousa Palooza. They were performing in the PAC and they also will be in the PAC for the choir concert on May fourteenth. Some band students were nervous at first, but as the concert approached they became less nervous and more excited. The choir concert will also have a theme, although the theme is not known yet. Choir students are looking forward to having a fun end of the year show. Daniel Crispino, a freshman who has played the clarinet for three years said, "My favorite part of band is learning new rhythms, and not only learning new rhythms but also learning new pitches, high octaves, and time signature." Crispino is one of the many band students who hope to do band again next year. When you're in band and choir you learn a lot of new things about what you can and can't do, and you learn to test the limits, according to music students. Crispino also said, "It was hard for me because most people have had experience in the past and I had to teach myself the finger placements and the letters." Band and choir is a group thing, but it is also very individual. Farrah Kirkby, freshman, said, "Just the fact that everybody can be different but you can still shine," when referring to the individuality of choir. Both Band and Choir have worked hard to prepare themselves for the concerts and hope to do their best when the curtains open. This year's prom is on Saturday May 9 th at the RBHS gym from 9-12. The prom's theme is Alice in Wonderland and bids were being sold from April 27 th to May 7 th . Unfortunately, the last day to buy bids was yesterday at lunch. "Our expectation for this year is to provide a festive, exciting and memorable Senior Prom for the class of 2015," said Mrs. Somavia, this year's Leadership teacher. The leadership class has been working on making prom a memorable experience for over a month now and there is still more work that needs to be done. They are getting as many donations as they can, creating a large amount of posters, buying decorations, selling tickets, and setting up for prom. The cost comes to around one thousand to two thousand dollars. "We have to buy everything, make everything, and then get yelled at everyday," Autumn Scholzen, sophomore, said. They do a tremendous amount of work in order for prom. "My job is to decorate the entrance where the seniors walk in. I have to make it look as much Alice-in-Wonderland-like as possible," Rena Fox, sophomore, said. This year's prom king and queen nominees are Faith Winiecki, KJ Hinkston, Olivia Zumalt, Joey Skaggs, Samantha Winning, and Devan Schoelen. "I hope that this year's prom is fun and not boring like most of the dances. I'm most excited to see if I win Prom King or not and to see if Samantha wins Prom Queen," Joey Skaggs, senior, said. All of the seniors are extremely excited for this year's Alice in Wonderland themed prom."I want for it to be fun and for Devan Schoelen to be Prom King. Also, I am excited about getting dressed up for the dance," Catherine Cumpton, senior, said.
