Lance Armstrong credited his Chiropractor as one of the top 3 rea- sons he was able to compete and win his 7th Tour de France. Patients are often led to believe that medical evaluation and management is the only option for treatment. As a Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner, this post graduate training provides a higher level of care than usual. I have found that Chiropractic evaluation provides a unique treatment choice that goes far beyond therapy or medical drugs. Chiropractic is the treatment of choice for many pro level athletes as evi- denced by Chiropractors on staff in the NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA. Chiropractors are also present at NCAA national track meets and many college level tournaments. All three US Olympic Training Facility Medical com- plexes are run by a Chiropractor. You read that correctly, a Chiropractor decides which treatment choice is best for Olympic training athletes. Unfortunately, Chiropractic care is not present at the high school level. Athletes at this level must seek out the services of a Chiropractor on their own. Most sports injuries are not catas- trophic in nature, but alter or restrict the performance of the athlete and respond best to chiropractic care. Chiropractic treatment is unique in the health care field. Chiropractic adjustments are designed to restore joint motion allow- ing the body to heal itself, reducing swelling and restoring joint integrity and strength, thereby restoring athlete participation. Proper evaluation by a Chiropractic Sports Practitioner is essential for ath- lete recovery. My own personal sports experience has seen my fair share of injuries. Ten years in gymnastics with two provincial championships, all-star soccer, a univer- sity football career with two final four team appearances, high school track provincial finals, national university track ranking and 35 years of hockey have either landed me in the trainers room or the chiropractors office. Whether you are a weekend athlete or an aspiring star, try adding Chiropractic care to your training and recovery program for the best result!
