Harrelson Funeral & Cremation Services is serving Pearson family. ©Community First Media Community First Media As we celebrate President's Day, let us remember that there would not be a presidency to celebrate without the brave sacrifi ce of the men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces. We should always be thankful for those who are presently serving and for those who have served in the past. One group who does their part in honoring the veterans is our local Honor Guard. A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of assisting the family of a Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He also was an active participant in the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family requested that the Honor Guard provide military honors and they gladly accepted the call. After the funeral service, the Honor Guard did a wonderful job of providing the twenty-one gun salute, taps and the presentation of the fl ag. In order to show respect for one of their own, each member of the Honor Guard which included sixteen men and one lady, saluted the casket and then one by one gave their personal condolences to the widow. It was evident by the tears that each one shed that they not only lost a member of the Honor Guard, but a part of their family. They are truly a "Band of Brothers." The residents of Rutherford County should be grateful for the men and women who serve in the Rutherford County Honor Guard. I have personally seen this group stand faithfully at graveside services, many times during adverse weather conditions, in order to have an opportunity to honor an individual who served their country. They ask for no reparation and are a total volunteer organization. Not only as a funeral director but also as a proud citizen of our county, I am thankful for the service they provide.
