WalMart Bass Fishing League Regional Championship Headed to Lake Hartwell, SC The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Hartwell Nov. 3-5 for one of six regional championships. This three-day tournament features the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers from each of the Choo Choo, Ga- tor, North Carolina and Shenandoah divisions. They will compete for a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy 1500 Sil- verado in the Boater Division and a new Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard in the Co-angler Division. "The weather has been good, and the water temperatures are trending down," said Chevy pro Anthony Gagliardi of Prosperity, S.C. "The shad have started their migration into the backs of creeks, so the key is going to be fi nding bass that are feeding and following the shad into the tributaries. "I would start with a topwater bait early," continued Gagliardi. "I like to throw a Pop-R in the fall if the bass aren't actively schooling. Shad-related patterns are going to work best – crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits. "Schooling is defi nitely going to play a role in this tournament," Gagliardi went on to say. "The bass are going to be grouping in like sizes, so the key is going to be fi nding the right size school of fi sh, one that has 3- to 4-pounders in it. It is going to take about 15 pounds per day to win, maybe 45 pounds total. There should be a lot of fi sh caught, but I don't think you'll see any huge stringers." Takeoffs will be at Clemson Beach and Recreation Area located at 275 YMCA Circle in Seneca, S.C., at 7:45 a.m. daily. Thursday and Friday's weigh-ins will be at the marina beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday's fi nal weigh-in is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Shaver Center lo- cated at 698 W. South 4th St. in Seneca. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public. The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, fi ve in each division. The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers from each division have now qualifi ed for regional tournaments and are competing to fi nish in the top six, which will then qualify them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fi shing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top win- ners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour. The BFL Regional Championship tournament is being hosted by the Mountain Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau. When the water starts cooling, crappie love to use them for moving and feeding. A contour map will greatly reduce your search time and increase your fishing time. When you find their general vicinity, use your locator to find the channel. Trolling is a great method to use to locate the crappie. Keep moving along a channel or ledge and watching your locator. Once you have located active fish, drop a buoy or figure out reference points and start fan casting the area. Fall crappie will probably be on a ledge near a dropoff. Depths will vary but usually it will be 4 to 10 feet. Since 1982 Jimmy Houston is Host of "Jimmy Houston Outdoors" TV Show on ESPN® For more tips, log onto basspro.com 2410 W. By Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ There's always one deer that stands out in the group. And it's always a doe – the matriarch of the clan. She's the one who stands guard while the others eat or play. She is usually the last one in line and is quick to scan the surroundings of her newly entered area. If anything even seems to be slightly unnatural; she be- comes immediately skeptical. The benefi t the doubt never goes to the surroundings, but to her. She trusts her nose and will move and reorient herself until her eyes verify and perfectly pinpoint the perpetra- tor. I know this because it happens to me all of the time. During this last time, I sat admiring the tenacity of this doe. While the others picked and played, she never did. It took her a long time to fi nally put it all together, but she did and eventually I was busted. What caught my attention more than any- thing was her single-mindedness. There was nothing that was going to interrupt her from the task at hand. She did not in- tersperse any other activity with her desire to locate the foreign smell. She would not I LOOOOVE Phillips Animal Hospital! pick, play, pay atten- tion to the others, or even allow herself to lose focus on fi nding the source of, what to her, was something that did not belong. She found it when she sought it with all of her heart. I watched my lesson for the day. I saw in practice and by example the reason why so many of my questions to God go seemingly unanswered. Instead of single-mindedness, I am double-minded. Instead of seeking Him with all my heart, I am half-hearted. And instead of staying until I trace where God has led me, I am quick to move on without ever locating the truth that God has placed there. I sense that I am not alone in my confession. God's direction is clear. He says, "And you will seek Me and fi nd Me, when you search for Me with all your heart." And not only is His direction clear, but his creation gives illustrated proof.
