"Instead of a traditional shower or bachelorette, brides can choose to do something more intimate like a spa day or A Stroke of Genius (visit booth 126) party," offers Premier Bride's Jean Shonkwiler. While there are a few paint and wine studios that offer wine and painting, A Stroke of Genius caters to each individual partygoer, according to owner Chris Glatzel. "We encourage creativity and want each gal to leave with a nice piece of art she is proud of—and wants to put on display." Shonkwiler adds, "I'm not sure how they do it, but even if you're not an artist, they'll make you one that day! It's a memorable way to spend time with friends and family—drinking wine and painting the afternoon away." Other trends in parties include sharing one and adding adventure, with many couples choosing to combine parties and playing games or activities like paintball and laser tag. Trevor Koenigs, Art and Marketing Director at CMP Tactical Lazer Tag (visit booth 556), explains couples can enjoy off-hours access with a pri- vate reservation during hours the facility isn't open to the public. "And for snack and beverage breaks and those who don't wish to participate, there's a party room where guests can watch from the mezzanine over the smaller arena." This is the perfect area for up to 30 guests, and a multilevel main area is also available for larger groups up to 50. CMP Tactical Lazer Tag also has an out- door course in Lake Geneva—the largest in the world—on four acres and in 13 buildings. "This is 'paintball without the pain,'" says Koenigs. "Teams are sent on missions to 'bomb areas and capture or rescue,' which is great for team building. It's not your typical glow-in-the-dark tag where you just keep on shooting until you run out of ammunition." For an even bigger travel adventure up north, couples can opt for a Wildman Adventure Resort (visit booth 109) event. With two outpost rivers to choose from—Peshtigo or Menomonee—the extensive list of activities includes whitewater rafting, high ropes, kayak or zip line tours, paddle boarding, guided snowmobiling, rock climbing and rappelling, as well as golf and paintball. The beauty of a couple's party? "What a great icebreaker—especially if your bridesmaids and groomsmen don't know each other well," says Shonkwiler. "And the girls get right in there with the boys!"
