PEANUT GALLERY YOU SAY… Reading about the cutbacks makes me feel we will be compromising and playing on courses not as they were originally intended. Why has Las Vegas been in decline so much over the last few years, and now the golf joins the bandwagon? We love golf and we love gambling. —spayne1969 Too many golf courses were built in the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s with real estate sales in mind. The most pleasant courses aren’t lined by homes on every hole. And what’s so great about living next to a golf hole? Constant noise from maintenance equipment, spraying of fertilizer and a foursome of drunks going past every 15 minutes. —skerlahdee Try raising the green fees again. That should help. Readers Tee Off My buddies and I go to Myrtle Beach every year in the Spring. It’s nice to get away from the wives and play golf without the interruptions of day-to- day living. —dipstick Simple. Velotta’s Column “The Ax” On 8 August 2011 The 260 casinos in Nevada pay fewer taxes than the eight casinos in Penna. Something is wrong with this picture. It would also be nice if we had a state lottery to fund education like they do in other states, but I know the casino industry won’t allow that. —Pgelsman Unfortunately, our Gaming Control Board and Gaming Commission are mostly rubber stamps for the casino industry. Little is done to protect the public, and nothing is done to rid the industry of dishonest employees when they’re caught lying to and/or cheating their patrons. —Al_Rogers Hit a business jackpot.
