at the city, as always happens when part- ners work together, and we've taken a good project and made it great," County Executive Chris Abele said in a release. "Not only are we adding and improving public space, we're replacing an eyesore along our lakefront and creating thou- sands of jobs, including a significant hir- ing focus in our underserved communi- ties." Additionally, the project updates include: ■ 81,650 square feet of public space ■ Rooftop parking, public transporta- tion concourse, streetcar stop, walkway to lakefront, bike sharing station, public parking and public plaza ■ $17.5 million in public improvements ■ $68 million in property tax revenue over 30 years, compared to zero currently ■ 2,074 construction-related jobs ■ 150 permanent jobs. "The Couture and the public invest- ments at this site set a new standard for access, amenities and connections between the lakefront and the rest of the city. The plan we are sharing today makes the public's interest a priority with its open spaces, its pedestrian access, and the transportation connec- tions," Barrett said in a release. "With the Couture, we are opening a new entrance to our cultural institutions, our recre- ational sites, and Milwaukee's beautiful lakefront." The developer, Barrett Visionary Development, has committed to 25 per- cent disadvantaged business enterprise and 40 percent Milwaukee County resi- dent hiring as part of the project. "We are tremendously excited to be moving forward with this transforma- tional project," said Rick Barrett. "We are proud to be bringing significant new investment to Milwaukee, growing our community's tax base and creating thou- sands of new jobs." The Couture would replace the county- owned Downtown Transit Center. Preserve Our Parks, a nonprofit watchdog group, argues that two-thirds of the land should be reserved for public use. Post Staff MILWAUKEE — It seems most Americans would prefer to talk about their deaths or the birds and the bees rather than discuss a host of money-related issues, according to Northwestern Mutual's 2014 Planning and Progress Study. The annual research project, which explores attitudes toward finances and planning, surveyed adults to ask them which topics they found most difficult to talk about. Asking parents to borrow money topped the list with 48 percent saying it was either somewhat or very difficult. Asking for money back from a loan to a friend or fam- ily member was second at 42 percent. Seeking a raise or promotion was third at 37 percent. Other results included: ■ Long-term care needs of your parents (35 percent) ■ Asking your parents about their wills or estates (31 percent) ■ Your death preparations and prefer- ences with your family (30 percent) ■ Asking your boomerang kids to move out (25 percent) ■ The birds and the bees (21 percent). — Conley News Service Survey: Americans find money conversations difficult ONLY AT Sept 3 to Sept 9 2201 E.
