Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church in Cherryville, NC. Burial followed in City Memorial Cemetery with full military rites rendered by Cherryville Post 100 Honor Guard. Dr. Metcalf served our country in the US Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Marie Nesbitt Metcalf; his parents, Columbus George and Pearl Duck Metcalf; and one brother, Lawrence Edward Metcalf. Dr. Metcalf is survived by his son, Dr. Douglas Lee Metcalf and wife, Jeannie of Winston-Salem, NC; daughter, Janice Metcalf Hammond of Sherrills Ford, NC; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Genevieve Metcalf Riley.
