H Area festivals Continued from page 1 By Andy Heuring A rural Oakland City man, wearing only his underwear, was arrested after he star- tled a woman waiting for a train to pass, when he tried to get into her vehicle. Thomas K. Miller, 56, of 1619 W. SR 64, was arrested at about 11:35 p.m. Wednes- day, August 20 on a charge of public intoxication. Pike County Deputy Sher- iff Buck Seger said he was dispatched at 11:39 p.m. to a report Wendy Cru- ze had called 911 to report that while she was stopped on Highway 64 for a train near the Pike-Gibson Coun- ty Line, a man in his under- wear tried to get into her car. Deputy Seger said Troop- er Brett Pool, and an Oak- land City officer arrived on the scene and began search- ing for the man, eventually finding Miller walking from the weeds on the north side of Highway 64. Seger, in his report, stated Miller began walking on the highway and was waving a piece of alu- minum foil above his head, while stumbling around in the road. Deputy Seger said Miller was sweating heavily and talking "nonstop, and flail- ing his arms and legs as he was sitting on the ground." According to Seger's re- port, Miller told police he had drank a half a bottle of vodka and taken an enema to rid himself of a microchip that people monitoring him had put in his body. He also told police the aluminum foil was to block frequencies from his head. Deputy Seger said when they asked him about try- ing to get into Cruze's car, he said he was trying to get away from people who were monitoring him. Miller was taken into cus- tody, preliminarily charged with public intoxication and arrested on an outstanding warrant. Jefferson Fire Dept. receives grant Kunz crashes into trees Ethan Kunz had a wild ride Tuesday morning just south of Petersburg when he ran off of Highway 61. Pike County Deputy Sheriff Brad Jenkins said Kunz was driving north, noticed he was across the cen- terline, overcorrected and steered his pickup truck off the right side of the road. He hit an embankment, then sideswiped two trees, which causes him to ricochet back to his right and end up facing west at a 90 degree angle, more than 100 feet from Highway 61 near Prides Creek Road. It happened at about 8 a.m. Kunz was not injured. By Andy Heuring Four people were injured in two AT V crashes Satur- day in Pike County. Cody D. Gadberry, 20, of Velpen, and Jessica D. Nara- njo, 23, of Petersburg, were injured when the AT Vs they were riding collided. Pike County Dispatch received a call at 4:21 p.m. reporting the AT V crash on CR 1000 E. near CR 400 N. It was investigated by Conservation Officer Ken Tichner. He said Gadber- ry and Naranjo were riding separate AT Vs on CR 1000 E. when Gadberry slowed and stopped in the road after an oncoming motorist waved him down to ask directions. Naranjo did not see Gadber- ry stopped and the AT V she was riding slammed into the back of Gadberry's at about 35 mph, according to Officer Tichner. The collision caused Gad- berry's AT V to flip and land on him. Both Gadberry and Narango were ejected. Both were treated at the scene for scrapes and bruis- es by the Pike County EMS. Jefferson Township Fire De- partment and the Pike Coun- ty Sheriff's Office assisted with the accident. Two teens were injured at about 9 p.m. when Brock Bowel, 15, of Petersburg, was driving a Honda four- wheeler with Anna Kidwell, 12, of Jasper, as his passen- ger on CR 125 W. Accord- ing to the Indiana DNR en- forcement, Bowel was riding south on CR 125 W., about a quarter of a mile west of CR 125 S., when they topped a hill and hit a tree that had fallen across the road. They were thrown from the AT V upon impact. DNR said Bow- el had abrasions to his back and arm, and was treated at the scene. Kidwell suf- fered abrasions to her head and legs. Because of her head injuries, she was tak- en to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville and kept for ob- servation. The DNR was assisted at the scene by the Patoka Fire Department and Pike Coun- ty EMS. Four injured in separate ATV crashes on Saturday By Andy Heuring A 21-year-old Elberfeld man was arrested for oper- ating a vehicle while intox- icated after police stopped him for speeding early Sat- urday morning. Kenan Bajzath was stopped by police for speed- ing on Main St., Petersburg, at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Petersburg Patrolman Jared Stevens said he saw a black Ford Focus driv- ing 38 mph in a 20 zone on Main St., Petersburg, and as he turned on his flashing lights, the vehicle hit the curb three times in front of Casey's gas station and eventually stopped at the McDonald's parking lot at about 2:30 a.m. Simmons said he ap- proached the vehicle and found Bajzath driving, and noticed the slight smell of burnt synthetic marijuana and the smell of alcohol After Bajzath failed field sobriety tests, he was taken to the Daviess Community Hospital for a blood test and tested negative for any ille- gal substances other than a blood alcohol level of 0.85 percent. The legal limit in Indiana is 0.08 percent. A urine test to check for synthetic was sent off and Simmons said they are wait- ing for those results. Bajzath was taken into custody and preliminarily charged with operating a ve- hicle while intoxicated, pos- session of a synthetic canna- binoid and possession of par- aphernalia.
