Our world has been designed in such a way that we need others. Even fi ctional characters need others. Where would Batman be without Robin or Superman be without Lois Lane? In the reality of life, the value of another person is priceless. Looking back at my life, any accomplishments can be attributed to the people who have been there to provide advice, assistance or encouragement. In other words, there is no such as a self- made man. There is truly much to be said about how much we really need others. Songs have been written to convey the loneliness and meaningless of an isolated life. A popular song performed by the Eagles in the 1970's was called "Desperado." The lyrics of the song say, "Your prison is walking through this world alone." Truly the enrichment of becoming emotionally attached to someone broadens our perspective of life. We must learn to give ourselves to others. It does hurt to lose people whom we have grown to love and to depend on, but the value of knowing them and the lessons learned from their life far outweigh the pain of losing them. The question would be proposed, where would we be if we had never known them? Those who emotionally guard themselves and never proverbially become "all in" in relationships are missing the blessings of knowing those around them. Perhaps it is time to "Come down from our fences and open the gate" and experience the value of another.
