You will learn about the distinguishing characteristics of these animals, and find out why they are called birds of prey. 6/18 – “Animals of the South Mountains” – Saturday – Join a Park Ranger to learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home. The program will begin at 2:00 pm in the Visitor Center audito- rium. 6/19 – “Tree ID Hike” – Sunday – Join a Park Ranger for a 1.0 mile hike along the Hemlock Nature Trail. Tree identification will be the focus of this hike. Meet at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am. 6/19 – “Birds of Prey” – Sunday – Join a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm and learn about some of the birds of prey found in the South Mountains. Meet a Park Ranger at the Visitor Center at 2:00 pm to learn about the “10 Essentials”. 6/26 – “Animals of the South Mountains” – Sunday – Join a Park Ranger to learn about the many animals that call South Mountains home. The program will begin at 2:00 pm in the Visitor Center audito- rium. South Mountains State Park is located south of Morganton off of old Highway 18. Cleveland County Memorial Library Readers of all ages will travel the globe this summer as the Cleveland Memorial Library presents “One World, Many Stories,” during the summer reading program. Children will explore places from Africa, China , England , Italy , and Japan to Mexico through stories, crafts, music, games, dance, and other activities. The Summer Reading Program is open to young people, pre-school through 6th grade, with programs, story-hours, reading for prizes and more. The Summer Reading Program will last six weeks from June 13th to July 28th. There will be no programs during the week of July 4th to 8th. No pre-registration is required and all programs are free to the public. Locations and times are as follows: Spangler Branch Library - Lawndale , NC Mondays 20th and 27th; July 11th, and July 18th. Life Enrichment Center Dementia Program Dealing with dementia’s difficult behaviors” will be the focus of the caregiver meeting. The great- est stress for caregivers of people diagnosed with dementia is dealing with difficult behaviors such as agitation and wandering. Caregivers are invited to a program Tuesday, June 21, at 5:30 p.m. to hear suggestions about preventing those behaviors and what to do if they occur. The meeting is free and open to the public. The program is sponsored by the Life Enrichment Center Adult Day Care and will meet at the center at 110 Life Enrichment Blvd., Shelby.
