C-6 Wednesday, July 2, 2014 The Press-Dispatch H Church news Continued from page 1 PAWS pet of the week "Kittens are convinced that the whole world is concerned with keep- ing them entertained"—F.A. Paradis de Moncrif. This week PAWS is featuring a tiger- striped tabby named Quinn, with pret- ty aqua-colored eyes, who is a quizzi- cal little kitten wearing her hat from Uncle Sam to celebrate the 4th of July. Although Quinn is very tiny, she has a big personality and would love to ring in the 4th of July with a new family. The cat room is very, very full and we are hoping the holiday weekend will bring in lots of adoptive families. PAWS also has six adorable, most- ly golden puppies that are in need of homes. Even in its de- cline, the church made sure that its brothers and sisters were well cared for. When those on the out- side of the walls needed some encouragement or assistance, Winslow U.M. would rise to the occasion. It isn't in anybody's plan to do, it isn't anybody's fault. There's a combination of reasons that happened over time. One is a decline in our membership, of course, which echoes a decline in fi- nances. But we also have an aging congregational popu- lation, which limits what we can do and we can't do. During the 40's 50's, 60's and 70's, we packed the sanctuary. This whole side of town was Method- ist. A lot of them walked to church. On Easter Sunday, if you didn't get to church ear- ly, you would not have a seat and there wasn't any air con- ditioning either. Congregations have in- vited us individually or as a congregation to join them in fellowship. This invita- tion has been very uplift- ing. When one door of happi- ness closes, another opens. Open hearts, open minds and open doors. The Winslow U.M. Church Family aBunDant liFe uniteD PenteCostal ChuRCh 409 south Fourth st. Petersburg "Where life is more than just living! Over the years, the Lord has shown me that through prayer He guides my every thought, and as I meditate on His Word, it brings me under- standing. What better ad- vice can we share? We see so much, we become numb to trage- dy, and through self motiva- tions, oblivious to the needs of others. Love is essential in the life of a Christian, both for man and our Lord. Don't let any- thing make you so cold that you cannot love. I want to thank God for the outpouring of the Ho- ly Spirit that was felt in our service Sunday night. He is faithful. God Bless. Henry W. Remember to pray for our country and our religious freedoms. We want to extend our sympathy to anyone who has lost a loved one. The Bible is the book of truth. Lying is a sin. The Bi- ble says not to bear false wit- ness. Who wants to have a relationship with someone who doesn't tell the truth? It hurts your self-image, and it is hard to witness to some- one about accepting Christ. Also, if you're not a truthful person, you'll never reach your potential in life. The grandfather told his grandson to never lie to his wife when he got married. Even though he didn't mar- ry for awhile, he did remem- ber his grandfather's advice Continued on page 7 ing will resume in August.
