A strong heat wave will begin to form over our area and expand over much of the Southeast states by Sunday and early next week. This strong high pressure will create a dome of sinking air, which means very few clouds can form and also helps develop the hot air at the surface. There will be a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm just about every day, the best chanc- es will be near the higher elevations of our South Mountains around Casar and Golden Valley, and again in the mountains of SC and Georgia. Otherwise, most of us will be mostly dry, and hot for the holiday weekend. The good news is this first heat wave of Summer should be short-lived, as it pushes back toward Texas later in the week, which will allow a cold front to penetrate our area with more showers and storms late week.
