C-6 Wednesday, June 4, 2014 The Press-Dispatch H Church news continued from page 1 PAWS pet of the week "Dogs are neither human nor Brit- ish, but as long as you keep them under control, give them exercise, feed them, pat them; you will find their wild emo- tions are amusing and their characters interesting" —V.S. Pritchett. This week PAWS is featuring an en- tertaining young dog named Pacer. A Puggle is one of the most popular cross breeds in America and are part Pug, part Beagle and to say they are social dogs is an understatement. They love meeting new dogs at the dog park or while walking in the neighborhood. They also love humans and want to be close to their owners at all times. Pacer has short, fawn colored fur with a black mask, an adorable curly tail and is approximately one and a half years old, sweet-natured, playful and has a great personality. Have a blessed sum- mer. Remember to keep grow- ing in His Spirit always. "Likewise reckon ye al- so yourselves to be dead in- deed unto sin, but alive un- to God through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:11). The risen Christ was the centerpiece of Paul's min- istry. Not only was he con- vinced of the historical fact of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, he had been transformed by the risen Christ. Because he served a living Lord, Paul could face whatever lay ahead. None of us knows what to- morrow may bring, but be- cause Christ lives within us as believers, we can face our future with confidence. We find strength in Christ's liv- ing presence within us. Father, we thank You for the joy of not only walking in Christ's love but for the as- surance of His living pres- ence. Taken in part from Open Windows. See you in church next Sunday. As he looked up at the sky, he saw all the scenes of his life flash by, along with two sets of footprints: one set for him- self, and another for God. Af- ter all the scenes had flashed before him, he looked back at those footprints and no- ticed something quite dis- turbing: At the most difficult times in his life, he saw on- ly one set of footprints. This deeply troubled the man, so he turned and said to God: You said that if I followed you, then you would always walk with me through thick and thin. In looking back, I see that during the most pain- ful times there is only one set of footprints. Why did you leave me when I need- ed you the most? I love you and would never leave. It was during those times when you suffered the most that I carried you. This is just a reminder to us all that "God will never leave nor forsake us" (He- brews:13:5). And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them li- ars; (3) and you have per- severed and have patience, and have labored for My name's sake and have not become weary. (4) Never- theless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. (5) Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent"(Revelation 2:2-6). One of God's messages to the church is this: Intimate connection with Him comes first. God was happy that the church in Ephesus was test- ing false apostles, persever- ing, walking in patience, and laboring for His Name's sake without growing weary. You have "left" your first love, it says in verse 4. The word im- plies forsaking, laying aside, omitting, and sending away. Luke 10 :39 -42: And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she ap- proached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." And Je- sus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her." It's so easy to become dis- tracted. Serving in itself is not bad, but when what we do overshadows who we are, the distraction that en- sues will eventually cause us to abandon the reason we came to Jesus to begin with. Everything we do must be an outflow of our relation- ship with Jesus in order for it to bear fruit. Keeping our connection with our Father at the forefront of our dai- ly lives is vital to our abili- ty to stand in the midst of this complicated world we live in. Let's sit at His feet and choose with Mary, the "Good Part." Blessings. Living Faith is currently meeting at the Old Peters- burg Gym on Walnut St. in Petersburg. "The deepest level of worship is praising God in spite of the pain, thanking God during the trials, trust- ing him when we're tempt- ed to lose hope and loving him when he seems so dis- tant and far away.
