only premium grade fuel between Red Bluff and just outside of Fortuna, so fill up while you’re there, and is open most Sundays. Boehm assures, "If the weather’s good, we’re open."
From Wildwood, you have a choice to make. Continue out to the coast 85 miles away, taking in mountain pass- es at Goods, Dubakella and
mountains, Norse Butte and a healthy, windy climb just west of Dinsmore Airport. Head back to Red Bluff on what some say is the prime section of 36W – it will feel like an entirely new road in the other direction.
Ride smart
36W will seem like a play- ground, but don’t get carried away. Wear protective gear, never ride after drinking and know the limits of your ability and bike – a remote, lightly traveled highway is no place to find out how far is too far to push yourself. There’s plenty of fun to be had at 55 mph, so keep the CHP at bay and use the straights to get ready for the next twisty section.
