As members of the Baby Boomer generation reach retirement age at a rate of about 10,000 per day, it's up to the Millennial gene- ration to take their place — and those young people are far more diverse than the any generation before. American cities are now competing for limited supplies of those skilled workers, and the competi- tion intensifies every year as more Baby Boomers re- tire. Fortunately, organi- zations like Mosaic have stepped up to make sure our region comes out on top, working to ensure our city embraces its growing diversity, attracts and reta- ins skilled and young talent and understands the im- portance of business practi- ces that are inclusive to all ages, races, creeds, religions and lifestyles. Mosaic is the Tulsa Re- gional Chamber's diversity business council, and its focus is to create aware- ness about the competiti- ve advantage of having a diverse and inclusive busi- ness culture and climate in our region. Mosaic seeks to provide tools, resources and show businesses that having a diverse range of employees is better for the bottom line and ultimately will catapult the Tulsa re- gion into the forefront of diversity and inclusion. e organization each year conducts a survey to gain insight into the cu- rrent climate of workplace inclusion, asking businesses in the Tulsa region to iden- tify their company's human capital initiatives and poli- cies. e five key metrics are CEO commitment, supplier diversity, internal policies, diverse people and public outreach and awareness. e most inclusive busi- nesses are recognized as the Mosaic Top 20 at Mosaic's annual Economic Inclusion Forum, the Tulsa region's premier diversity and inclu- sion business summit. Ultimately, we want to hold up inclusive busines- ses as shining examples of how to create workplace cultures that will keep us — and other businesses — competitive. is summer, we begin the process again as we pre- pare to launch our latest survey. is year, Mosaic in partnership with ONE Gas is leading an effort to create a Tulsa Regional Diversity and Inclusion Month, en- couraging local businesses and supporting organiza- tions to host events one month a year in order to raise awareness of diversity and inclusiveness. Several organizations have already shown interest in partici- pating. Diversity is also a key component of an ongoing effort to create as strategy for developing the Tulsa region's workforce in the years to come. e Workfor- ce Analysis Project is cu- rrently gauging the state of our regional workforce as we determine how we want to meet the workforce needs of employers and re- sidents in the coming years.
