Patoka Valley Quilt Guild meeting April 1 By Kathy Weyer, Secretary President Geri Lueken opened April meeting at the Forest Park High School Au- ditorium at 7 p.m. Mary Jane Fischer gave the treasurer's report for guild. Joyce Beck and Geri Lu- eken are working on the new slate of officers and commit- tee chairpersons for the next meeting. New officers will take their positions at the June meeting. See either of them to put your name on the slate. Birthdays were read by Johnnie Heeke membership chairwoman. Thirty-eight members were present. Sherri Hilgeman will have the new books from the li- brary listed in the newslet- ter. The Sew In Day at the Fer- dinand Library will be May 17th. The Sew In Days were on March 14th and 15th, which was also the week- end for Quilters Day out at Evansville. There were eight quilters on Friday and three on Saturday. This was the first two-day Sew In at the library. Those that had done the challenge for a nine patch block, showed their blocks, and how different they all were. Ann Jorden then showed how they could set their three blocks together on point, and how large the fill-in pieces needed to be. More information will be in the newsletter. Joyce Beck reminded all that she is needing to get the Kid's Quilts turned in so she will know what we have to turn over to the next person taking her position. Marge Hevron will have the May Program. Show and Tell was next, as there were no other reports given. Following the meeting Joan Knies from Crisis Con- nection then told the guild how the organization was started and what all they did, and how many counties they work with. She then showed how they use the quilts and bags that are given to help oth- ers going through different trying times in their lives, which covers all ages. She had many of the bags that have been made for their office and how they used them. One was someone ap- plying to go back to school, for rape kits given at the hospital, for small children that have left their home, so they have something that is theirs, and list goes on and on. The bags and quilts are from very small, to much larger. All are appreciated. They are also accepting items to put in these bags, from shampoo, to pencils, it is all needed and expensive.
